Wcalazccaf Trme has passed qurckly durrng the past four years Yesterday we walked up the steps to Mt Vernon Htgh School for the flrst tlme today we stand outslde the door looklng tn Lrke old Father Herodotus we feel rt necessary to take our pen rn hand and record the htstory of the class of 1956 so that rt may serve as an tnsptratlon for future classes On a brtght sunny day tn 52 M V H S opened tts doors to 168 new students What a class we were' Oh yes we started out much the same as other classes do the mam drfference was that tt Just dtdn t take us as long to catch on as rt does most Freshmen We certarnly dxdn t fall for any of those Semors trtcks of Uylflg to sell us elevator ttckers' Our Freshman teachers who ordmarlly were so capable began to wonder why thetr methods farled one of them accrdentally drscovered that we hadn t even percelved the meamng of study Clock watchers they called us some even sard we were mdolent' Now Just look what we ve turned out to be' Just when we began to settle down there came the Barn Dance on top of that II was leap year' Now we gtrls were ttmtd and shy but that drdn t prevent our taktng advantage of leap year' Some of our brrght gtngham skrrrs were even seen promenadrng w1th Sentor blue Jeans' The poor Freshles who were sptlled over mto room 21 moved mto 30 one E C A perrod to elect a governing counctl Now rt seems that we elected a certaxn gavel wlelder who dtdn t know that the posttron went hand tn hand wlth good cttrzenshtp remember? He was efftcrent though whtle he lasted wasn t he? Mentron the Freshman year and we lmmedrately thmk of that dreary old Monday mormng tn February Were they trytng to underesumate our ab1l1ty by gtvtng us those tests wrth blocks of triangles rectangles and squares? The records we left rn the offlce however Just can t be equaled' Who satd that Freshmen couldn t be sophtstrcated?
