OUR MEMORABLE DAYS At last the long awaited year of 53 has arrived. With due pomp and ceremony, we have commenced. We have finally reached our goal with the help of our faculty and our fellow students. On September 5, the seniors entered M.V.H.S. to start the last lap of their educational (?) journey. Sophisticated?? Well, some people doubted it. At our first class meeting we elected officers and football queen candidates. This marked the beginning of our Senior year. We were well represented on the football team with eleven Senior members. Time was slipping by rapidly, so quickly but care- fully we chose the annual staff. After much hair pull- ing and nail biting the year book got underway and every one concerned heaved a sigh of relief. By that time we had received our first six week’s grades. The favorite excuse was I just haven't got over my vaca- tion. ” Hurrah for us!! We went way over our goal in the card and stationery sale. We really fooled everybody (including ourselves.) They say that all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy so we had our play with the big Leap Year Barn Dance. This was the girls' big night--and did they take advantage of it!!! And by the way, what did you think of certain re- fined (?) senior boys who provided us with the delight- ful (?) odor throughout the halls? Surprise!! The Posey County Tourney wasn’t held in Posey County. It was held in the Mater Dei gym in Evansville to accommodate more people. And who won it? The Wildcats, of course, and wasn't it a thrill to see them cut down the nets and receive the trophy for the second year in a row? Men Are Like Streetcars so the saying goes, and everyone found out why the night of the Senior Play. The Seniors really sat back and enjoyed the Prom this year--especially since we didn't have to do any of the work. It was really a swell Prom, Juniors. Ooooh!!! My stomach was the most heard ex- pression the day after the Senior picnic. (The drug stores, also, had a busy day selling Pepto Bismal.) What??? Honor Day already! And of course, the Seniors took all the honors. Well, almost all, anyway. Baccalaurate and Commencement!!! These were the most important events of our Senior year and really, we acted like ladies and gentlemen. Two down and two to go was our motto at the beginning of our Junior year. We had at last reached the exalted ranks of upperclassmen and were now call- ed Jolly Juniors. However, some people thought we were still a bit Silly because we wore our new sweat- ers and jackets during the hot autumn days. We elected officers and chose two of the class beauties for football queen candidates. This year the football queen and her royal court were privileged to reign over a team who tied for P.A.C. Championship. Shoe leather and knuckles were slowly wasted a- way during the annual Junior magazine sales. Compe- tition ran high throughout the two weeks because everyone was enthused over winning those prizes. (We also needed the money to put over the big prom we were planning.) 31
