Forum Dedicated to This year the Forum is proud to dedicate the yearbook to the Chairman of the science department, Nick Houston. A Happy New Year was being echoed in the Ohio River town of Bellaire in 1931 as Houston was born. He spent his early life in Bellaire and graduated from Bellaire High School. After a four-year-hitch in the Navy Houston completed work on a B.S. degree from Ohio State. He earned a Mas- ters Degree from St. Maryfs College in St. Mary's, Minneso- ta in 1970. He achieved the degree on a National Science Foundation grant. With his wife Agnes, and four children Will, Tom, Bar- bara and John, Houston lives on Glen Road. His son, Will, is a senior this year. Besides teaching Biology ll, Houston is involved in vari- ous extracurricular activities. When the cross-country team was dissected from the school program, he volunteered to coach a cross-country club to keep the interest of the sport alive. He also volunteered to coach the girls' basketball team that completed county competition this year. In by- gone years he was a baseball coach and the faculty volley- ball teamis coach, playmaker, strategist, mediator and rule- maker. Houston has taught in the local system eight years. He has prior experience at Cambridge Junior High and three 2 , W. Nicholson Houston years at Colegio San Justo in Puerto Rico. Houston is involved in a host of civic activities centering around conservation and various fund drives. ln 1970, he, more than anyone else organized the April Environmental Day and had students participate in many worthwhile activities. According to a variety of sources, Houston is known as a 10 minute 4- second miler, a'hampster hunter, a person who tried to start a goat herd by buying two nanny-goats, an avid conservationist, a craver of beef stroganoff, an antique restorer, a Detroit Tiger-Cleveland Brown-Woody Hayes fan, and an organizer of such experiences as chameleon and cockroach races. Most of all he is considered a fine, just, understanding and fair teacher.
