,IAME IMEL RECEIVE DEDICATIO The staff of the 1971 Forum is proud to dedicate the yearbook to James N. lmel. lmel was born in Cleveland in 1933. His family moved to Gambier in 1936. At this young age, he was a mascot for the Kenyon College Swim team. ln high school, lmel was known as a rambunctious student. He was an all Central Buckeye League center for three years and achieved all-state honorable mention his sen- ior year. He graduated in 1951. From 1953-1955 he was with the Army stationed in Germany. lmel received his B.S. degree from Ashland in 1959 and a Masterls degree from West Virginia in 1966. His teaching career started in Gambier in 1959. A year later he started his career at Mount Vernon High School. In his career he has been known as the Senior Social Studies and Geo-politics teacher. He has also been known as an ex-swim coach, ex-foot- ball coach and ex-FTA advisor. He presently is known as the operator of the football and basketball scorehoards and the instigator of team-teaching. He also has been issued a principal's certificate by the state department of education. Having a gruff appearance, he is respected by teachers and students for being clear- headed, fair-minded, an agitator, sincere, a fighter for his convictions, and a truly profes- sional teacher.
