Year of Bewilderment This year was a year to remember because of bewilderment. Despite successes and failures, the situation of the Mount Vernon City Schools remained in our minds as the students returned and found old standbys like the Jacket Journal and Pep Club gone and other organiza- tions or activities curtailed. November gave us a chance to rejoice because an operating levy was passed, but we still had rooms with crumbling walls, water in Room 130, broken A-V equipment, and buses with their motor strength measured in pony-power instead of horse-power. A few activities were restored, but people realized that they wouldn't be in the Forum. Before Spring, plans for 1966-67 were announced and many realized that the old school would never be the same. Year of Hopefulness The year of 1965-66 was a year of hope because many things occurred to offer changes for the best. An operating levy was finally passed in November and activities were resumed in many areas. Under a new administration, tardiness and absenteeism were reduced. Students began to look human again although some continued to let their hair grow to appear as something crawling out of a sewer. Hope for some of our slower or non-college companions was shown when curriculum changes were announced in various areas. There was hope when the students realized that the public and school officials would push harder to utilize every inch for an improved school. The students hoped something might get better before it got worse.
