Vernon Community College. Even though only 5-10, he has gained national attention for his scoring and playmaking as he ranked among the nation's top junior college scorers. LARRY BURKETT drives hard in for a two point THE WARRIORS' TEAM, Cheerleaders, and loyal fan effort against Lincoln exciting game. Burkett and Yearwood Lead Larry Burkett Although not setting any records, Burkett was the playmaking sparkplug of the team. Not only did he average 23.5 points per game, but he often also was the defensive standout. Many times in his two-year career with the Warriors he led the team in assists. He scored a total of 471 points his freshman year and followed with 389 points as a sophomore--a total of 860 points. Many times he would drive around taller opponents for his sensational over-the-head layups. He will long be remembered as one of Mt. Vernon's finest all-around players.
