'7fae Ml. Wyman Cdammwmliq eallege On October 29. 1955. nearly ninety-six per cent of the citizens of Iefferson County who went to the polls voted for the establishment of a iunior college for Mt. Vernon, Illinois. This is the most overwhelming maiority recorded in iunior college history. Twenty-seven percent of the 1956 high school graduating class enrolled in the home college in September. Enrollment held up well during all semesters. In addition, through night courses, it served adults of the community. Because the college is so young it is not yet completely accredited. However, the thirteenth year has received recogni- tion from the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction, Blacl-:bum College, Eastern Illinois State Teacher's College, Illi- nois State Normal University, Southem Illinois University, the University of Illinois, cmd the State Approved agency for the training of veterans.
