Experiences, activities, emotions live on in memory, and for each of us memory is personal and unique. We have gathered into the 1962 Bell Cote images which will allow our minds to recreate the memorable events of the past year. We have aimed in these pictures to capture the individuality of those who have shared our experi- ences. For we have left our own “footprints on the sands of time only to the extent that we have emerged as individuals. 5

If you wish to see my monument , look about you. ” Christopher Wren Look about you students of Mount Vernon past and present and contemplate the tangible and the intangible monuments of a man’s life. Our campus itself is the visible evidence of the ability and determination of President and Mrs. Lloyd. Late in 1942, when the United States Navy notified President L.loyd that it would shortly take over the school’s facilities — then located on Nebraska Avenue — Mount Vernon faced the prospect of extinction. President and Mrs. Lloyd, determined to save the school, undertook to find living and working space in war-crowded Washington, and held Mount Vernon together through its most difficult days. In the years following the war, the Lloyds were largely responsible for locating, planning and developing the present campus. Yet a college is more than its campus. Since 1937, when Doctor Lloyd became President of Mount Vernon, he has striven with perseverance and with patience to raise academic standards. The culmination of this effort was reached in 1 958. when Mount Vernon became an accredited Junior College. Although Dr. Lloyd retired front the Presidency this year, his services to the institution have not come to an end. He leaves a legacy of enduring value to our college community — a belief in Mount Vernon ' s future and in the ideals which he has tried to make part of our lives. For all he has given to the college and to us as individuals; we. the graduating class of 1962, dedicate our yearbook to Dr. George VV. Lloyd. 7
