Although the bell tower as such was never built, the old college bell was returned to the school a decade ago and is now housed in the bell house ad- jacent to Somers House — and it is this bell house which forms the design motif for this year ' s book. Planning and editing of the yearbook is done by the undergrad- uate staff under the leadership of its Editor and a board of Section Editors. Although the yearbook is conceived primarily as a momento of the graduating class, it also serves as a pictorial chronicle of the Mount Vernon year for all undergraduates. In the background Mrs. Gow (center) and General Schreiver (right) And mingle with the crowd A ma Mafer Our Almo Mater glorious , With loving hearts and proud , We crown thee all victorious And sing thy praise aloud. In loyalty we serve thee And strive to heed thy call, Mount Vernon, O Mount Vernon! Through self to conquer all. You give unfailing kindness If trouble meet us here; You foster all our pleasures And make them seem more dear. Nor time, nor care, nor sorrow Can these fair days erase, But they, with each to-morrow Help us new tasks to face. Like Breath of Spring ' s fresh morning That lifts the heart to song, When courage droops and wavers And paths seem gray and long, Will come thy dauntless spirit To help us on the way. Mount Vernon, O, Mount Vernon! Hold fast they tender sway. The changing years may bring us Some longed for dream of bliss, Yet memory will cherish A sympathy we miss. In hours of joy or sadness, What ' er our need may be, Mount Vernon, O, Mount Vernon! Thy children turn to thee. 1 V ¥ . V. 4 •„ ,
