Alter the four-week probation period, lire big day arrived when we, as Freshmen, pro- duced the traditional Variety Show, in order to gain our freedom ' We chose ‘Up and Down Broadway’ as a theme, with a variety oJ what we hoped to be clever acts and skits. We breathed a sigh of relief when we learned that we had been let off probation and were now full fledged Freshmen 1 We then entered into the various activities and dubs that Mount Vernon has to oiler. Winter followed Fall and our next big event was the annual Ingenuity Contest in January— a con- test between the two classes to test our ability to give a complete show on twcmy-lmn hour’s notice. After frantic hours ol painting scenery, making costumes, and writing songs, we had put together our finished product— only to have to yield victory to the seniors. We gave the victors an informal party with entertain- ment tn Hensley “rec room ' After our mid- year exams, we settled down to enjoy the convenient ' locations ol W. L., Lhe Uni- versity ol Virginia, the Naval Academy, V.M. I. , and West Point. During the Spring Term, the Presentation Banquet was given in the Refectory. We pre- sented to live Senior Class our colors and die plaque, on which was written our motto Honestes Lahore Vero The final event of our junior year was the Jumor-Senioi Ban- quet. also in the Refectory, with The Mount Vernon Big Top as our theme. We enter- tained die Senioi class with our interpreta- tion of a circus. Alter final examinations were over, we bade adieu” until Fall to the friends college had given us. T his September brought back Seniors in- stead of Freshmen and it was a happy occa- sion, for we knew that a wonderful year lay ahead of us. The Freshman freedom” was well earned through Freshman Varieties. Uter ;i semester filled with fun and excite- ment. we found it hard to believe dial another Ingenuity Contest was upon us. Matching wits with the Freshmen, we produced our show, but again acknowledged our competi- tors as the winners. An informal party was given in their honor, and the entertainment helped to atone for our defeat. With mid- years behind us, we began, with misgivings, our last semester at College, Long-remembered will be the Faculty-Student Basketball game, and die various plays and concerts that were offered to the school throughout this Spring. After Spring Vacation, with many of us re- turning with sun tans and tales of Bermuda, we all made plans for the May Day week-end, which included the crowning of the May Queen and the Spring Dance in Lloyd flail. Alter gathering for the last time with the Freshmen at die Junior-Senior Banquet, we prepared for out final exams and the big event” that was to come— graduation. May 2(idi lias come, our diplomas are in hand, and with sad, yet happy hearts, we bid so long — but not good-bye — to the bound- less friends and memories our College years have brought to us— they shall always remain as one of the most cherished and important steps in our ladder of life. oai£ 67 ] President Merry Helen N evins (liaxk cxkfi OUl£ I 68 President Sara Bi ixr: Di w Studznt± 69 J President Maxine Vincent cJii oai£ [ 70 President Si san East LZEctoZij FACULTY BarbbjxOj Miss Clara Luisa, 1924 Park Road, N.W., Washington, D.G.
