The fantasy in this production took place in a small frown where a young boy, Daniel discovers he can fly! Featured in this production were: Blake Freshwarer as Daniel, Joe Lombard as Richard, Diane Blair as Alice, Richard Shiemer as Jeffery, Kirn Wittensoldner as Judy, Kent Yoder as Sreven, Enas Abbousy as Penny, Doug O'Keeffe as Roger, Kristi Kelly as Claudia, and Sandy Herdle as Mrs. Rice. The play, written by Marsha Norman, provided its audience with an honest and riveting look at one family’s struggle with suicide. Jean Zurbrugg portrayed the part of Thelma Cates (Mama) who desperately searches for a way to change her daughter's decision to end her life. The Purple Raiders finished with a 6-4 overall record, bur they were seven points away from a third straight Undefeated regular season. Mount Union was 6-2 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, suffering one-point losses to Wittenberg (25-24) and eventual champion Capiral (26-25). The Raiders dedicared rhe season ro Pilmer, and nearly pulled off anorher championship season. Keith Rybarcyk of Oberlin became the third straight Mount Union quar- terback to pass for more than 2,000 yards (2,055) in a season, as he was selected to the All-OAC First Team. Ir was a record-setting year for wide receivers Ed Hogya of Painesville and Bill Eyer of Minerva, too. Hogya caught a school-record of 47 passes for a record 957 yards. Eyer became Mount Union's all-time leader in pass reception yardage as he finished his career with 10 carches for 168 yards, the second mosr in a Mount Union game, in the 33-14 finale against Marietta. Callahan then finished in second place at the Great Lakes Region at Wooster and qualified for the NCAA Division Ill Championships, where he finished in 31s place among 180 runners. Along the way, Mounr recorded impressive victories over Heidelberg, which was leading the league ar thar lare point in the season, and an early season triumph over Capiral, which had just defeared Division | Kent Srare and evenrual Division Ill National Champion Ohio Wesleyan. AND MRS. CHESTER GRAY Ethel and Chester Gray, 2147 S. Seneca Ave., will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house reception Nov.2 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Alliance Woman’s Club. Gray and the former Ethel Toalston were married Nov.2, 1935 in the parsonage of the Immanuel Reformed Church by the Rev. A.H. Ellshof. Hosting the open house will be their daughters Miss Linda Gray and Mrs. James (Carol) Brunie. They have two grandchildren. Mr. Gray is retired from his post at Morgan Engineering Co. His wife was employed at Whitacre Greer Fireproofing and she is also retired.
