Would We Do This All Again? s the new kid on the A block it is appropriate for me to listen more and speak less but permit me to share a few thoughts ob- servations with you on this topic, a topic which focuses on the graduating seniors. My hope for you is that with each passing year you will be able to say with ever increasing clarity and con- viction “Yes, | am very pleased that | decided to attend and graduate from Mount Union College!’’ On Commencement day all the enthusiasm and excitement make it easy to be happy and excited about having reached the milestone of graduation. But on the fol- lowing Monday and Tues- day... when that hoped for job opportunity has not yet materialized you may won- der, at least momentarily, whether your high school friends who did not go on to college and discouraged you from doing so were right. They now have new cars, new this, new that and appear to be successful at least in a material sense. But what will they do when the limited skills they have are no longer needed or wanted? Can they adapt to a rapidly changing world? You, | hope, have taken advantage of the opportu- nities provided you at Mount Union College and have learned how to learn — have learned how to adapt to a rapidly changing world. In a vocational sense this should serve you well. More- over, and at least as impor- tant, | hope you have also utilized your opportunities at Mount Union College to learn how to live — how to enjoy the richness of our and other cultures, how to find and use opportunities to serve with others in volun- teer organizations, how to savor and be sustained by meaningful family relation- ships. All of this lies before you. Sieze the opportunities to serve as much as you seek the opportunities to be served. If you do,| assure you that you will increase the chances for satisfaction with your life. Mount Union College is here to serve our society by preparing young men and women for what happens immediately after com- mencement and what hap- pens for the rest of their lives. My hope for each of you is that you have taken full ad- vantage of those opportuni- ties. If you have, there will be no question in your mind that it was all worth it and that you would most definitely do it all again. pL ee Sh Upper left: The beauty of the Homecoming festivities.
