Mount Union felt that a fourth sorority was needed on campus. Three outstanding girls, one from each sorority on campus, were chosen to help with the founding of the new group. In september, 1945 the new group was started as a local sorority with the name of Zeta Kappa Phi. The first meeting place of the sorority was in the snack bar in the basement of Miller Hall. After the group was started, the members ap- plied for affiliation with Alpha Delta Pi. On March 22, 1947, Gamma Theta was officially in- stalled at Mount Union. At one point the mighty Raiders were rated 6th in the nation in their division, but top- ranked Baldwin-Wal- lace defeated the Raiders 17-7, probably the most exciting game in years. This year’s game plan was different from last year’s because of the new quarterback, Tony Colao, who passed considerably more than ran. Tony had two of the best runners a team could have: seniors Dave McLaughlin and Phil Tartt, who almost always assured a five yard gain everytime they carried the ball. Eight players were named to the O.A.C. Consolation finalists include: John Ague, Jim Carlisle, Andy Jameson, and Dana Yaw. These finalists, as well as divers Ken French and Harry Chris- tie, are expected to strengthen the team’s depth. Coach Pete Ginnegar says, ‘“‘The record is not indictative of how we played; in 7 out of 9 games we were within 4 goals of winning.” Coach Ginnegar is also looking forward to an upcoming season as the young purple raiders face contenders such as Notre Dame, Michi- gan State, and Ohio State. Senior Dan Bagnola was the team’s highest scorer with a season total of 10 goals. He also contributed two assists. Freshman goalie Bob Jones was voted most valuable player with 230 saves, averaging 25.5 saves per game. People have to be thanked and remembered. During the course of a year, many people drifted in and out when we needed help and became involved with the book. It would be impossible to try and our deepest gratitude and heartfelt thanks go out to them. Our section editors were wonderful for they pulled us through many a deadline. Frequently those deadlines were met at the last moment, unexpectidly. Their crews worked ex- tremely hard at typing copy, laying out pages, and gathering names and pictures. (McMaster lounge seemed to be the sight of typing contests as three or four people would be typing simultaniously.) Our photographers did a tremendous job keeping up with the demands we placed on them. We, as editors, demanded perfection from our staff just as we demanded perfection from ourselves. We wanted to put together a 100% error free book. The odds were not with us and mistakes cropped up. We’re sorry for the misspellings we did not catch, the underclass and senior photos that are not in the book, and all the people who did not get caught by our cameras in a candid. We wanted this book to be full of the students and faculty alike, because that is what Mount Union College is made of: us. We hope you enjoy the book. We want to thank a few special people before we close. First, thanks goes out to Dr. Walton for being there when we needed to bounce ideas off of someone other than ourselves. ‘“‘Bookends”’ was reprinted with permission from Columbia Records, and “My Life’’ was reprinted with permission from Capitol EMI Records. As departing editor, I want to personally thank the staff again. We put together a hell of a book and you should be proud of yourselves for the work you did. I am proud of all of you and I am relieved that we could over come personality differ- ences to work together, as one, to create this book. Putting together a yearbook is a lot of hard work and requieres pa- tience, determination, creativity, stub- borness, and above all, a sense of humor. Without a sense of humor a staff could virtually destroy itself out of frustra- tions, resentments, and bitterness. I especially want to thank my co-editor, Dawn. Without her there to help, guide me, and pull me back to earth at times, I don’t think the book would be as good as it is. Good-luck to you and your staff with next year’s book. Have fun with it! Keep Smiling! AND WHAT A TIME IT WAS. Rees Lis oo CS Pe ae Kes - — oe ae aes —————————————— ni essences hed w . . —— eee aaa eee = a ee rr : Lie, hi — mT mee _————_-_— =, “ ‘a i :
