From DYNAMO editor to AWS and Standards Board, from the Mt. Union Choir and Mount Players to Senate, ‘‘Boozer’s” con- cern for people is always active. An English major, Boozer was elected to Who's Who in her junior year and her name has frequently been on the Dean's List and on the roles of several Campus committees. The first floor Ketcham counselor calls RD 1 Fombell, Pa. her home. Runners-up for the honor were Debby Betz — Homecoming Queen and Head Cheerleader; Alpha Delta Pi and SNEA President — Peggy Lindenberger; floor counselor and Outstand- ing Freshman Woman — Pam Richards; Standards Board President and UNONIAN art editor — Bev Vangeloff; and AWS and Alpha Lambda Delta President — Beth Wilkinson. “BOOZER” OUTSTANDING SENIOR WOMAN 162 Jim Koppel was chosen the 1973 Outstanding Senior Man. The Miller head resident is a soci- ology major and serves as a volunteer with the Alliance Juvenile probation Office. ‘‘Kopp”’ was elected president of MRC and has served for two years as the student director of the Campus center. Listed in the 1972-73 Who’s Who, Jim was active for two years on the track and cross country teams, and spends his “KOPP” breaks in Girard, Ohio. Also recognized were runners-up Denny Alexander — track letter- men and BSU member; Men's Judicial Board and Phi Sigma President — Pat Karson; Karl Knittle — cross country letterman and co- captain of the track team; Miller Hall head res- ident and four-year letterman in track and football — Terry Romigh; and Senate Presi- dent and Phi Kappa Tau — Tim Wulf. Despite some excellent performances of individual plays, the team was unable to put everything together this year with the sole win being at Grove City. The defense was led by defensive co-captains Terry Romigh and John Kennedy. Offensive co-captains were Mark Preusser and Bob Brown. The Purple Gang Coach Wable and his assistants are looking for an improved 1973 team. Respectability is another four wins away. WN pO =O UO M The 1972 Soccer season at Mount saw many records broken by the Purple Gang. Fourteen new records were set as this team, led by Cap- tain Doug Krueger won seven consecutive games and finished with a 9-2 mark. The outstanding factor for this year’s winning record was the teamwork. The offense aver- aged over three goals per game while the de- fense was responsible for allowing only one goal per game. Excellent individual perform- ances were turned in by Gary McGahey, Doug Krueger and Jacques Pierre. With a dozen or so returning lettermen and the loss of only two senior starters, the 1973 soc- cer team can look forward to an equally good season. PAWS 216 The 1972 Cross Country team ended with an excellent 5-1 mark for the season. However, they also saw their winning streak of 45 consecutive dual wins ended at Ashland. Harold Young set the school mark for most field goals in a season as he, Ed Lawrence, and Barry Ring were selections for the Ohio Con- ference team. Senior Mike Gerber set the rec- ord for most career assists averaging 6.3 a game. Junior Barry Ring is now fourth on the all-time rebound list and eighth in all-time scoring. Coach Fisher will only be losing two seniors, Mike Gerber and Tom Weisenstine from this year’s team. The Mount Union Grapplers, coached by Jim Tressler, had a great 13-1 season with the only loss coming in the final meet of the season to Baldwin-Wallace by a score of 21-27. The Pur- ple Gang’s 10-1 mark was good enough to have them finish second in the OAC and in the OAC Tournament, they scored 79 points to fin- ish second to B-W'’s 79%, their best finish ever. At the OAC Tournament, the team captured the championship in five of the ten weight classes. The five champions were sophomore Jim Aquilo at 118 pounds, senior Ron Collins at 126 pounds, at 134 pounds sophomore Rae McDonald repeated as an OAC champion, ju- nior Chet Shoemaker at 167 pounds and freshman Dan Pugh at 177 pounds. Next year’s Raiders will miss senior Ken Stan- ley who finished fourth in the 150 pound class, senior captain Dennis Chupa with a career total of 47-19-5 and Ron Collins with a career mark of 71-4-2. Also included were such enthusiastic freshmen as Jerry Cope, Rick DeVault, Ron Pierce, Jim Poling and Dan Stavisky. Unfortunately, this youthful team was plagued by inconsistency which led to an overall rec- ord of 7-10-1 and an OAC record of 4-5-1. However, there were a few bright spots as Capers and Smith tied the homerun record with 5 in the regular season. Capers was also chosen as the team’s Most Valuable Player as he was named to the All-Ohio Conference sec- ond team. Mike Jurkovic will be the only senior on the 1973 team which will consist of juniors and sophomores. With a more experienced team, Coach Rafeld and his student assistant Bob Atkinson can look forward to an improved '73 team.
