Bradley Acting Director of Admissions WCB:vm Enclosure 3 o =) nD ie} fe) ial Prologue 4 Objectives of Mount Union College M ount Union College seeks to be an excellent liberal arts college in the Christian tradition. We believe the objective of excellence is imperative in the Judeo-Christian heritage and can best be achieved by maintaining high academic standards. Mount Union College is a community of scholars and learners in which cooperation and concern are distinguishing characteristics. Responsible academic citizenship is required of all. We respect the dignity of each person, and each individual is expected to be a responsi- ble and maturing member of the college community. We seek to help each student develop his spiritual, mental, social, and physical powers fully by achieving the following goals: Intellectual integrity, maturity of judgment, and the capacity to do independent work. Moral and ethical standards of thought and behavior within a Christian framework. An understanding of the significance and interrelatedness of the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, and the fine arts and of their relevance to our cultural heritage. The ability to think critically and reason clearly, to evaluate ob- jectively the ideas of others, and to use the resources of reason in solving abstract and practical problems. The ability to read, write, and speak the English language effec- tively. A knowledge and appreciation of music, literature, drama, and the visual arts, and the ability to participate creatively in at least one of these areas. A knowledge of at least one foreign culture to be achieved through a study of its language and people. The acceptance of personal and social responsibility involving con- sideration for the rights of others and the evaluation of persons as indi- viduals rather than as members of groups. The will and ability to maintain one’s individuality and personal integrity in all endeavors. Preparation for intelligent and effective participation in the life of the family, the community, the nation, and the world. Preparation for an occupation or for further work in professional or graduate school through broad preliminary study. The development of recreational and social skills of lasting value.
