BASKETBALL SEASON December 13 The off1c1a1 opemng of our basketball season found our varsity playlng Altoona Cathohc on our home floor where we suffered a defeat 64 33 Paul Holesa s 21 pomts was belleved to be a new record for a Mount Union High eager December 17 Fate certalnly was smllmg on us when our team trlpped Wlllxams burg 45 35 for an 1n1t1al vlctory on our home floor December 21 Tonlght on our home floor the Trojans conquered Yeagertown 34 26 In the prellmlnary game the Yeagertown glrls defeated our glrls 48 37 December 31-Our fast steppmg Trojans gamed the1r thlrd Wln tonlght when they defeated Bellwood 27 24 The Trojan jayvees edged the senlors 22 21 m the prellmlnary game January 4-Our lucky streak ended when Lewlstown called up a score of 38 agalnst our 27 polnts Lewlstown junior varsxty won from our Trojan jayvees 58 14 January 7 Our Trojans were outscored by Huntmgdons Meloymen 29 20 The gym was crowded to overflowlng and many were turned away In the Jayvee game Huntmgdon won 33 13 January ll Our boys bounded back lnto the wln column tomght bv takmg Jumata Jomt 23 15 The J.1n1ata Jomt glrls defeated the Mount Umon glrls 25 15 January 14 The Trojans dropped a 23 18 dec1s1or to the Tyrone Eagles m the vlctors floor The L1tt1e Eagles also won 24 16 January 21 In one of the best games of the year our Brlcktowners upset Phllxpsburg 25 22 The Trojan Jayvees also won for the flrst time 20 19 January 22-The Altoona Cathollc I-hgh nosed out our drlbblers 32 29 but not wlthout a battle whlch gave the unbeaten team the1r blgg6St scare of the season January 25-The Yeagertown passers over trlpped by our varslty 29 23 in a rough battle but the Axetown lassles won 48 27 over our fair maidens January 28 The Trojans traveled to Holhdaysburg where they suffered the worst defeat of the season 47 18 Our jayvees also were snowed under by Hburg jumors 51 16 February 1 In a palr of games at home our jayvees trimmed Petersburg High s February 4 The Lewlstown teams laced our varslty and Jayvees with scores of 40 22 for the mam game and 37 17 ln the prellmmary Durmg the intermlsslon of the varslty game Dlstrlct Attorney I Newton Taylor appealed to the fans to sup port the Fourth War Loan m behalf of the Huntmgdon County War Fmancial Com m1ss1on February 5-At Altoona the Trojans suffered a 46 22 defeat to the Altoona High Mountam LIONS Thls IS the eleventh vlctorv for the Llons February 8 Our flghtmg varslty held the Huntmgdon Bearcats to a flve pomt lead ln the flrst half of a Mountam League game only to lose 36 17 The Huntmgdon jayvees won the prellmlnary game from our junior varslty 37 15 February 11 Our Trojans won the1r fxrst game 1n the second cycle Mountam League play trlppmg the Tyrone qulntet 38 32 However our jayvees were beaten 22 10 ln the prellmlnary February 15-Travelmg to Bellwood the varsxty suffered a 42 27 set back our Brlcktowners trallmg the Blue Devlls throughout The Bellwood Jayvees won Februarv 18 By, whrpplno our Trojans 51 33 the Phllhpsburg Mountaineers remam unbeaten 1n the second cycle play of the Mountam League Our jayvees also suffered a 23 13 loss February 22 Roughhouse Altoona Hlgh rushed 1nto our gym to walk off wlth a 39 30 vlctory over our varslty who all but swept the v1s1t1ng Mountam Llons off thelr feet durlng the last half In the prellmlnary the jayvees nosed out the Juniors 20 19 m an overtlme contest February 25-Wlth a 27 21 wln or er Hollldaysburg the Trojans ended the 1943 floor campargn In the prellmlnary game the llttle Trojans were swamped 62 22 44 floor campa1gn In the prellmmary game the l1ttle Trojans were swamped, 62 22 One hundred twenty fwe varsity 34-6, and the Huntingdon High girls 'topped our girls 36-27.
