MARY'S COLLEGE, designed by Baker of London, contains a circular shield about which is the name of the college, and the date of its founding, 1925. The circle has four divisions. At the bottom center is an open book inscribed with the college motto - Deus Illuminatio Mea - God My Light. At the upper left are three angel wings signifying the city of Los Angeles. The fleur de lis of France at the upper right represents the Sisters of St. Joseph of Caron- delet who were established in France in l65O. At the upper center a lily surrounded by thorns stands for Mary, Mother of Sorrows. The seal thus beautifully symbolizes Mount St. Mary's College, founded by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet in the city of the angels.

This is my wish, my prayer for you as you leave behind your student days at Mount St. Mary's to take your places in the ranks of her Alumnae and to assume your duties as Catholic leaders in a world that needs your faith, your courage, your ideals. To you, your Alma Mater en- trusts her traditions, her hopes for the future. As Catholic leaders, we urge you to be faithful to the principles which are your inheritance. We beg you to be generous in doing your part in renewing the face of the earth by bringing Christ into every sphere of life and by illum- inating the ways of darkness and paganism with the light of Christian principles. Think often of your Alma Mater and the lessons you learned at Mount St. Mary's. Often lift up your eyes to the hills where you will derive strength and confidence from God who will be your con- stant guide, your unfailing friend.
