Both of these fea- tures were stressed in the foreign language courses during the year. As a background for English and as a base for study of the romance languages, Latin was drilled into the classicists of Brother John Evan- gelist and fiery Brother Ricardus. The tongue and customs of unfortunate France were studied by the French classes under Brother Vincent. And some- thing of the German manner of speaking and living was taught by Brother Myles. The glories of old Spain and its euphuistic mode of speech were im- parted by Brother Christian.
