CLASS HISTGRY Seniors As we walked the familiar path in the fall of our Senior year, our hearts quickened for we were at the pinnacle of our Mount days. We missed Sister Natalie and the Misses Campanelli, Cashion, Morse and Giordano. We welcomed Sister Herman Joseph, who helped us bcgin our new Sodalityg Mrs. Brook. who became our new gym teacher, Mr, James Looby. who daily shared his classical knowledge with us, and Mrs. Rahm, whose departure we lamented in November even as we welcomed Mrs. Freeman. We especially missed Father Frisbie's familiar gait, endless good humor, and honest interest in our problems. Election time gave us as president Peggy Heneghan, vice-president Loretta Blake, sec- retary Constance Odlum and treasurer Harriel King. Our yearbook was launched in mid- October with the untiring efforts of Constance Sapia. editor. and Sue Sexton, business manager, and their hard-working staffs. The diligence of all, under the guidance of Miss Lane, was evi- dent, for the light in the yearbook room often glimmered long after the last locker had been slammed shut. Meanwhile, all the seniors acquired that f'polished look as class pictures were taken. Mad dashes between Brown Studio and M.S.J.A. were common until every last smiling face was counted into the yearbook. Soon we were eagerly awaiting the arrival of the visiting postulants of the Sisters of Mercy. Among these Sisters at the outset of the religious life, new acquaintances were made and old re- newed. Next. we were privileged to hear Mrs. Robert Mahoney, president of the National Council of Catholic Women, speak to us in Assembly. We discovered that as we grow older, friends will undoubtedly be separated. In No- vember Janet Landis, a fellow-classmate, left us for her new home in Massachusetts. Our informal dance, Fall Fantasy, was an ap- propriate finale to the fall season. Winter snows, soon to follow, did not discourage Father Ed- ward Gannon, who arrived to direct our final retreat, one which left us with thoughtful minds and misty eyes. We celebrated Christmas with our special Senior privilege, singing carols from the chapel loggia. Christmas brought another honor to our class, too, in the form of a television appear- ance by a senior choir on Monsignor Wodar- skiis holiday program which was presented on Channel 3 in Hartford. Early in 1958 we entertained our mothers at a formal tea. In late January we discovered that You, Sweet Spirit, surely protect the seniors, for we survived both Asiatic flu and mid-year exams. The acquisition of the new green rug in our senior social room brightened our spirits as we embarked on the second half of the school year. Our last Parents Night involved a hobby and talent show. Numerous classmates portrayed the importance of extra-curricular activities, proving to teachers and parents alike that some diversions from homework are worth while. We presented the operetta Kathleen on St. Pat- rick's day. It was a rousing Irish folk musical, colorful and gay owing to the bright green, black, and white costumes hand-made by hard-working Senior seamstresses. Spring came and with it the growing expectation of graduation and hectic re- hearsals for the class play. The finished product was highly entertaining and successful. The year ended with a whirl of activities: the sparkling Senior Reception, Class Night, the thoughtful pause of Recollection Day, and then, at last, Graduation. The stately procession, the recep- tion of diplomas and the inspiring commence- ment address - these were the sweet, flying shadows of Graduation Day. Sweet Spirit of Wisdom, now as we dwell on these memories many little things return to us. The beautiful paintings we hardly noticed in the halls, the attention-getting bells and im- portant bulletin board notices vying for our attention, those silly conversations in the lock- er room, hysterically funny answers in class, the inevitable disappearance of chapel caps when the Benediction bell was rung, embarassment at receiving library overdue notices in assembly, the deep anxiety on Monday morning when a test loomed up, the friends we made-all these things we remember, and more. We will always remember the tranquility of the campus when the foliage was full and the majesty of the Mount, pure and shining in winter snow. May we carry this memory in our hearts, Sweet Spirit, as an inspiration for our lives, lives made stronger because of our Catholic education and Mount heritage.
