We appreciate the time you have spent with us, the laughs we've had together, and the experiences we have shared. It means a great deal to us to be able to dedicate our yearbook to you. We hope that you will remember us fondly, as we will always treasure our memories of you. To Sr. Mary Harvey The Class of 1986 wants to thank you for being a friend and teacher. We appreciate the time, care, and concern you have given us, not just in English but other subjects as well. We are proud to dedicat our yearbook to someonaffcho has given MSJ so mui foi so many years. ' 5 Parents Friends Club The MSJ Parents and Friends Club helps the school in a number of ways. Their chief fund-raising activity, Bingo, helps bring in addition- al money to help with the operating cost of MSJ. Anyone who has been to Bingo realizes the hard work and dedication of these faithful sup- porters. A few of the projects made possible by the PFC include repairs to the gym, parking lot, front entrance as well as the purchase of new class- room furniture. Without the help of the PFC, tuition costs would be much higher. Officers for the 1985-86 school are: President ... Chris Esposito, Vice- President ... John Crowley, Secretary ... Barbara Perkins, Treasurers ... Dick and Joyce Blongy. 6 ____----u-------i ..„ — •----- 'ru: ,] u.. „ A____ ,U t ■t: Jr ii. .i.i ..ij'ilAtiMIulni Dear Graduates of 1986: At last we come to these final mo- ments of our life together at Mt. St. Jo- seph Academy. There have been so many gifts of living, loving and learning that have filled these years. Often we have prayed that God would form in us the likeness of His Son , that He would send us as gospel wit- nesses into a world of fragile peace and broken promises , that He would touch the hearts of all with His love that we in turn might love one another . You do go forth today as gospel wit- nesses . He has touched and continues to touch your heart with His love. You are called to be faithful to all that you are now and to all that you will yet become. This, then, is my prayer for you — Sincere congratulations to you on this accomplishment of graduation. With continued love and prayer. Heffcrnan's Harriers continued in their accustomed role of obscurity representing MSJ well in MVL competition as well as in the State Meet and several invitationals. The boy's team came in 2nd in the MVL with a 0-2 record and also finished 2nd in the MVL Championship. The varsity team of Kristian Omland. Greg Rideout, Chris Bianchi, Shawn Casey, and Jason Walthcr finished oth in the Southern Vermont Championship and compiled one of its lowest point totals in recent memory in the Division II State Meet to finish 10th among the 15 teams. The girls never fielded a complete team although Lovisa Johnsson and Hannah Vargas competed in invitational and championship races. Individually speaking. Kristian and Greg led the boy's team throughout the season. They finished 2,3 in the MVL Championship. Kristian became the first MSJ runner to win a major invitational and his th place finish in the State Meet tied a MSJ best. Lovisa was unbeaten in MVL competition and her 7th at the State Meet was also a MSJ best. Those three runners went on to compete in the New England qualifier and Kristian and Greg had the unique honor of running in the Kinney Northeast Regional in Van Cortland Park, the Bronx. ... There are many things we do not know, but we are learning. Sometimes, because we are learning, we make mistakes, we seem irresponsible and unable to cope with problems, but this is only because we are steadily struggling to gain new experiences and learn new things. The people of today, the present genera- tion. must have faith in us. the future generation, if we are to succeed. They must believe that we are capable, that we do care about our world and our future life. We are prepared for the world. For years we have been learning as much as we could learn so that we might succeed. We realize what is expected of us. and we are not afraid to face our responsibilities. We have met people: we know how to live with people. We are absorbing what the world around us has to teach. We know something of politics and of science. We are anxious to vote wisely: we have learned about jet ;Janes and atomic energy. We are eager to learn how to control tr.e weapons of war and the weapons of peace. We want to go to coliege and learn more so that we may contribute more to our world and yours. Many think that we shall never succeed, bu we will. We like fun. yes. but we can be sober. When our brothers, our friends, were killed in the war. we were silent: we resolved then that our children should not have to face war. We want peace: we want a better world. Perhaps some of the adults of today who once made these resolves, too. laugh and think we are foolish and do not mean what we say. but we do. In our hearts we firmly hope for a better world. We believe in ourselves. Perhaps if the adults of today had more faith and hope in the world, the world would be a more secure place. We believe in the world: we believe in ourselves. All we ask is that you believe in the world and in us. too. June Johanson JANUARY 1949 In 1949, June Johanson, a high school senior and literary editor of her yearbook, wrote an essay defending her generation. Little did she know that 37 years later, that essay would still apply. The ideas of atomic bombs and jet planes have changed and have been re- placed with nuclear energy and space shuttles. Our friends and brothers may not have been killed in war, but someday we, as well as our children, may have to face that. What is the same, however, is the fact that we are the future generation, and we have the power to shape the future into a world of peace if given the chance. Thirty-seven years from now, in the year 2023, who knows if the threat of nuclear war and the exploration of space will still exist? Perhaps the threat of war will be present, or maybe there will be a world of peace and space exploration will have advanced to space colonization. But one thing will still hold true: we are the future generation who will form our world and our children, another gen- eration, will form theirs. Whatever the generation, the shape of the future will be in the hands of those who hold it and have the power to do with it what they will. They will be able to make it a world of hatred or a world of peace. Just as the class of 1949 had the ability to act, so do we and so will our children. Hopefully we have learned from the past. Since 1949 we have witnessed the Korean War, Vietnam, Watergate, the Kennedy assas- sinations and the slaying of Martin Luther King Jr., but we have also advanced in medical research, computer technology, and space ex- ploration. The class of 1949 shaped their future and our past. Now it is up to us to do the same. All we ask is that you, the present generation, believe in us who hold the future. -Catherine Cassese Baby Pictures P- 94 l. C. Gallipo, 2. D. DiSabato 3. T. Tallagnon 4. G. Miglorie 5. M Joyce o. C.
