Text from Pages 1 - 144 of the 1978 volume:

i RutlA v Di Vei8 v owr Being a student at M.S.J. these past four years has taught me a feeling of community, of belonging and of friendship. In eighth grade we worshiped high school students. We longed to walk the halls of M.S.J., to play football, to go to pep-rallies, to know that everything there was ours and that we belonged there. As Freshm.n, v e came with our minds open, ready to grasp everything in sight. The next two years were spent sorting out everything we took in, and also getting to know ourselves a little better. Because of the size of M.S.J., the personal relation- ships between classmates and faculty are ones of friendship. As a senior and a soon to be alumnus, I have come to know myself, my friends,, and to know I am not just a part of M.S.J. but that M.S.J. is a part of me. The memories of the teachers and the kids, both of which are great, and of everything that I have done, will long be remembered. I finally realized one day why it would be so hard to leave M.S.J.. I can sum it up by saying that at M.S.J. v e get something besides just an education. We find the free- dom to be creative, to grow, to love, to laugh, and to build up a security in a place where we can be ourselves. But suddenly we’re going to leave this place where our roots are and move on. The thought is scary but we all are capable of handling it now. It will be one more experience that will help us to grow. I hope that everyone in our class loved M.S.J. as much as I did. I also hope they will continue to love it and support it so that other kids will be given the same chance we were so lucky to have had. In closing, I hope this yearbook will recapture some of the memories you have from M.S.J.; the parties, the games, the classes and the kids. JOHN GAROFANO MOUNT SAINT JOSEPH ACADEMY RUTLAND - VERMONT 05701 November 15, 1977 To The Class of 1978, Graduation can be seen as a series of goodbyes. Goodbye to your friends and classmates of four years. It means goodbye to the teachers who have prepared you so very well for the future that lies ahead of you. It means goodbye to the building on Convent Avenue that you have learned to know so well. It also means goodbye to the security of the familiar. Graduation also means something much more positive than goodbye. It means hello to friends not yet met. It means hello to the challenges of the future, your future. It means hello to the person you are on your way to becoming, but have not as yet become. Remember you do not go into that future alone. You have been prepared for the challenge of that future by a fine education, rooted in the gospel and teaching of Jesus Christ. You leave us with the promise of the love and prayers of the entire M.S.J. community. We are losing you as students, but we welcome you into the larger community of the M.S.J. Alumni Association. God’s peace and blessing be with you always. Dedication THE CLASS OF 1078 HAS CHOSEN TO DEDICATE THEIR YEARBOOK TO MR. JOSEPH FLORY, WHO BEST EXEMPLIFIES THE QUALITIES OF A TEACHER AND ALSO THE QUALITIES OF A FRIEND. HAVING TAUGHT AT M.S.J. FOR MANY YEARS, PREPARING STUDENTS IN THE BUSINESS FIELD, HE HAS DEMONSTRATED HIS DEDICATION AND WE FEEL THAT WE SHOULD EXTEND TO HIM OUR APPRECIATION BY GIVING HIM THIS DEDICATION. MR. FLORYfS WIT AND PERSONALITY HAVE BEEN AN ASSET TO HIM, TO THE SCHOOL, AND TO OUR CLASS. WE, THE CLASS OF 1078, WISH TO THANK YOU MR. FLORY FOR THE HELP, GUIDANCE, AND INSTRUCTION YOU HAVE GIVEN US, FOR NOW WE TRULY KNOW THE MEANING OF THE WORD FRIEND. e a r o 0 k E d 1 ROW I- D. Flannery, Layout Editor; M. Creed, Art Editor; J.
