TO THE CLASS OF 1966: Never before lias so great a challenge awaited you as you go forth to take your place in the world. You are being challenged to make your mark on society and to enrich your own lives in the process. And never before have the opportunities been so numerous to meet this challenge. Daily advances in science, new exploration of the arts, and an ever increasing effort to bring these findings to the threshold of those determined educate themselves formally or informally—all exemplify the opportunities Siting for those who would seek them. They reveal a vast arena where challenge meets opportunity and where opportunity gives birth to further challenge. Each of you has something distinctive to offer to the world. Character and temperament, personality and intelligence, talent and determination— these are all yours to use for good as you meet the challenge through the opportunities you arc willing to explore. ch; The Catholic education you have received should enable you to recognize truly Christian values where they are present, and to provide them where they arc absent, so that you may illumine the world with the light of Christ. May this Light grow brighter in your own lives, and may you be the instru- ment for its illumination in the lives of others until the day when Divine Love shall make this Light shine pecfectly through union with Him forever. Dear Graduates: Your yearbook is a journey into the past; not the remote past, but those four wonderful years which arc be ini; climaxed this week with your graduation from M.S.J. As such it will be perused often and treasured for years. With graduation from high school many of the activities and interests of the past years will be left behind. You will be entering new worlds, you will be making new friends, you will find new interests, new challenges. The very nature of high school makes all of this necessary; your stay here was never intended to be permanent. Rather we were expected to help you through your formative years, to help you build the foundations upon which your future- must now arise. What that superstructure will be will depend upon many factors but mainly it will depend upon you. For four years, then, we have had a part in your intellectual and spiritual growth. We have tried to present the wisdom of the ages, to give you a taste of culture, to lead you along the paths of right reasoning, correct thinking and clear expression. And all of this we have tried to do within the framework of Christian truth and discipline. Hopefully you arc now equipped to form healthy attitudes, to make prudent decisions, to become truly Christian per- sonalities, to create happy and useful lives. As you begin your venture into the future our prayer for you is that God will bestow His choicest blessings upon all that you do and that, in return, from your hearts there will arise a profound exemplary love to light and warm the world around you. Father Searlcs
