This education began in the home and has been nurtured in the school. We, as the Catholic adults of tomorrow, will apply and develop it while striving for our eternal goal. Through the guidance of our parents, and the efforts of our teachers, we are entering adulthood with some assurance that we have been well prepared to meet the challenge. With the grace of God, the lessons of our Christian education will remain with us throughout our lives, giving us the proper attitude toward life and aiding us in the perception of Truth. Dedication As a token of our appreciation, we dedicate our 1961 MOUNT to the two priests who have won the respect and admiration of each member of the graduating class ... —Reverend Father John Lynch, who guided us through our first three years of high school with devoted attention, love, and understanding. —Reverend Father Wendell Searles, who came to us in our senior year and has shown great enthusiasm for all our endeavors. It is men such as these who help pave the way and ease the burdens encountered in our daily lives as teenagers and students. Encouraging individuality as well as scholarship, they have shown us the right path to the discovery of our place in Christian society, and aided us in knowing and understanding ourselves. Father Lynch and Father Searles have, each in his own way, met the responsibilities and achieved the goals of a prin- cipal with tl e highest success. With all sincerity we thank them. They represent the true spirit of Mount St. Joseph. Most Reverend Robert F. Joyce Bishop of Burlington Rt. Rev. John M. Kennedy Christ the King Rt. Rev. Alfred L. Desautels Immaculate Heart of Mary Rt. Rev. William A. Crowley St. Peters Rev. John Ready Assistant Principal and Director of Guidance SCHOOL BOARD Left to Right: Reverend Mother Mary Concepta, Sister Julia Marie, Mr. Frank J. O'Brien, Sister Mary Pauline, Mr. John Lovett, Msgr. Alfred L. Desautels, Mr. Michael Francis, Msgr. John M. Kennedy, Msgr. William Crowley. O God, the Creator of all things, You have imposed on men the law of work. Grant in Your goodness that, by the example of St. Joseph and under his patronage, we may accomplish the work that You command us to do and attain the reward that You have promised us. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, Who lives and reigns with You in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, forever and ever. Amen. MOUNT SAINT JOSEPH ACADEMY RUTLAND - VERMONT To the Class of 1961: Graduation means many things: it means separation from friends gained through the years; it means achievement in that you have reached another milestone in your lives; it means progress in your spiritual and in- tellectual lives; it means the beginning of your adult lives and responsibilities. Only time will tell the effects of your learning and training here at Mount Saint Joseph. Our hope for your welfare has been sincere and prayer - centered. It is because of this that we are confident that your con- tribution to church and community will be notable. The spirit of St. Joseph is a spirit of justice - he was a just man . May your future lives reflect that spirit in justice to God, to your fellow men and to yourselves. This is the challenge that is presented to you as you become alumni of M.S.J. With God’s help go forth to meet it. SISTER M. ANCILLA French 1, Religion 1, Math 1, Gcomo- try Student Council Moderator SISTER M. This democratic right is afforded to the students by means of the Student Council—an organiza- tion of students, elected by students to serve as the of- ficial representative of the students in all matters per- training to them and to the school. The Council's chief aim is to teach the youthful citizens of today to be better adult citizens of tomorrow by fostering training in leadership, citizenship, scholarship, sportsmanship, and good school spirit. Through its many and varied activities the council strives to promote a spirit of unity, cooperation, initiative and loyalty, not only among its members, but also and more especially among the members of the student body. 60 Sister Ancilla, Moderator Student Council Convention a Great Success Christine Canney, former State President, chats with Registering for one of the conferences arc Cheryl Caligoiri and Douglas Mr. Gerald Van Pool.
