CONSECRATION MESSAGE His Excellency THE MOST REVEREND EDWARD F. RYAN, D.D. Bishop of Burlington, Vermont lam profoundly grateful to His Holiness, Pope Pius XU, for acceding to my request that Most Reverend Robert F, Joyce be named Auxiliary Bishop of the Diocese of Burling- ton. As to the priestly character and outstanding ability of Bishop-elect Joyce, it is need- less for me to elaborate upon them. He has been a good parish priest for many years, and has shown excellent administrative ability. He possesses something that is most im- portant, namely, an understanding of the problems of the ordinary working classes and a willingness to help them. He has a friendly manner that makes it easy for all to ap- proach him for assistance and direction. I am sure the prayers of all will be united with my own humble supplications to Almighty God that he may be blessed with every grace needed to carry on the duties of the episcopate for the greater honor and glory of the Most Holy Trinity and the salvation of the souls of men.
