Our 9OO Mount to H is Ib xcellc ncy Bishop Robert 'b. Joyce His Excellency, the Most Reverend Robert Francis Joyce, has chosen a per- sonal coat of arms, designed by Mr. Gerard Patrick Rooney of Boston. The monogram, IHS, is taken from the arms of the Society of Jesus and re- fers to Bishop Joyce's baptismal patron. Saint Robert Bellarmine, a member of the Society of Jesus. The birth date of Bishop Joyce, the seventh of October, the feast day of the Most Holy Rosary, accounts for the three roses above the eagle. These refer to the joyful, sorrowful and glorious mysteries. The processional cross is designed from the famous cross of Cong and is used in deference to the Bishop's Irish ancestry. The hat and the other insignia added to the shield are used to indicate the rank of bishop. His Excellency has chosen as his motto the words of Christ, Ut Vltam Habeant--That They May Have Life. John, 10,10. The highest Ideal of truly Christian family life has been given to the world in the ex- b rienrls 75 CONSECRATION MESSAGE His Excellency THE MOST REVEREND EDWARD F. RYAN, D.D. Bishop of Burlington, Vermont lam profoundly grateful to His Holiness, Pope Pius XU, for acceding to my request that Most Reverend Robert F, Joyce be named Auxiliary Bishop of the Diocese of Burling- ton. As to the priestly character and outstanding ability of Bishop-elect Joyce, it is need- less for me to elaborate upon them. He has been a good parish priest for many years, and has shown excellent administrative ability. He possesses something that is most im- portant, namely, an understanding of the problems of the ordinary working classes and a willingness to help them. He has a friendly manner that makes it easy for all to ap- proach him for assistance and direction. I am sure the prayers of all will be united with my own humble supplications to Almighty God that he may be blessed with every grace needed to carry on the duties of the episcopate for the greater honor and glory of the Most Holy Trinity and the salvation of the souls of men. f OUR PRIESTS RIGHT REVEREND MONSIGNOR WILLIAM A. CROWLEY Diocesan School Superintendent RIGHT REVEREND MONSIGNOR JOHN M. KENNEDY Pastor of Clirist The King Church REVEREND ALFRED L. DESAUTELS Pastor of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church Our sincere gratitude to our priests who help us to grow mentally and spiritually so that we can enjoy a full life here and hope for eternal joy in the life to come. In the Holy Scripture where these words of Christ are found, they are followed by And have it more abundantly. This is indeed the prayer of all of us for all of you now leaving the Acade- my. The Church prays that you may have super-natural life. She maintains schools that you might have it more abundantly. Your parents pray that you may have life, and sacrifice so very much that you may have it more abundantly. But only you can make the prayers and the wishes come true; only you can make the sacrifices worthwhile. Each one must do it for himself now, as you go your separate ways in the twentieth century world. We who stay will ever pray that you will so conduct yourselves that you may have life everlasting and have it most abundantly. Mothers and Fathers Club has been actively interested in us and in our school for the past five years. It was the Mothers and Fathers Club that pro- vided leadership and the bulk of the work in raising the funds with which the band uniforms were purchased five years ago. Every year they have sponsored the annual Spring Sports Banquet to honor all school athletes. It is the same Mothers and Fathers Club that annually defrays the cost of one boy and one girl from the Academy attending Boys State and Girls State. For the past two years they have conducted the Booster Club to aid not only the school but the Sisters as well. To the officers, the executive board, and all the members, our sincere appreciation and thanks.
