965 1957 — Kirby Memorial Building wing was completed. 1959 —Rev. W. Collett was appointed principal upon Dr. Garden’s retirement. 1961—Kirby Memorial Building was remodelled and a new wing was added. Included were a snack bar, canteen, library, class¬ rooms, science rooms, and a students’ lounge. 1964 — Enrollment rocketed to 4,300 students in all day and evening divisions. Peak student capacity is reached. 1965 — Campaign for Lincoln Park as a future Campus home for the college is started. Mount Royal as a Jimior College Overcrowded universities and vocational schools have for years been attempting to meet the demand of education. They have now been joined by the comparatively new phenomenon, the Junior College. Mount Royal’s ciricula includes university courses designed to equip students for careers in Commerce, Law, Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Teaching, Radio, Television, Community Service, Library Clerical, Journalism, Interior Design, and Recreation. Mount Royal provides high school graduates with the first two years of university training in a smaller, more personalteed atmo¬ sphere. It also provides training in additional careers not available at larger universities. Mount Royal also provides a large, fully accredited High School with a registration of more than 700 students in 1965. L

DATE LINE HISTORY OF MOUNT ROYAL COLLEGE 1910— Mount Royal College wasformed under sponsorship ofthe Board of Colleges of the Methodist Church and through the efforts of a group of Calgarians and Rev. Dr. George W. Kerby, minister of Central United Church. — In the same year a charter was granted the college to instruct students in elementary and secondary education including courses in music, art, speech, drama, journalism, commercial and business courses, technical and domestic arts. 1911— Mount Royal opened under the principalship of Dr. Kerby and with a registration of 154. 1925—The college came under supervision of the Board of Colleges and Secondary Schools of the United Church of Canada. I93I—A University Department was established in the Junior College Division. The elementary school was discontinued. 1942—Dr. John H. Garden succeeded Dr. Kerby as principal upon his retirement. 1944 — Ammendments to the Junior College Charter provided Engineering courses in the University Department. 1948 —Rev. W. J. Collett was appointed Dean of Mount Royal Junior College. 1949—The Kirby Memorial Building and G.D. Stanley Gymnasium were completed. 1956 —The Bus iness Administration Department of Mount Royal Junior College was established. 2
