Myron THEY VE CHARTED OUR COURSE - - - Carl Jensen, Superintendent Nluch time has been devoted to the administration of edu- cntion in the Highline school system by the unsellish mem- bers of the district school board. 'l'ht- responsibility for final decisions concerning changes in our educational system rest upon them, and they have carried this responsibility with great accomplishment. Our sincere gratitude and appreciation is extended to the Highline District Board of Directors and Superintendent of Schools. 6 Like stars in the skies of years past, memories have a way of twinkling which makes our todays more pleasant. I can only wish for you that in the years ahead, moments at Mt. Rainier will have hccome a milky way of memories - each star a wami recollection. JV . . Strangers we were with the schc and with each other, coming from a large ar and wide variety of schools. Both problei were quickly remedied, however, and togetk our class began building the foundation of o school. Our voices were the only ones ringing throu the halls until January of '59, when the jt iors joined us from Highline. Who can forg the little mouse that stole the show at our w coming assembly. X Although we are the second class to gradui from Mt. Rainier, we can proudly claim to the First graduating class to have comple' our full three years of high school at Mot Rainier. As graduation nears, the thought enters ei of our minds, 4'What lies ahead? What c tinies do the stars hold for us?', We look ba on our school years, the dear friends made, ' wonderful experiences shared, and the less learned. Then we know. D ick Flood Staff ............................ Nancy Cole, Sheila Drury, Mike Sedam, John Hennen, Roberta Neal, Kathy Sieekins, Karen Wilson The staff, editors, and advisor of TOR have worked I industriously to present to you this 1961 yearbook, C which we hope will Hll your tomorrows with happy memories of this year at Mt. Rainier High School. At the beginning of the school year, we held a contest between the classes to determine which class would purchase the most annuals. The Senior Class was vic- torious, narrowly beating the Juniors with 85W sales to their 83'Zp, thus capturing the coveted trophy for this year. Our dill pickle sales became popular, and gave us great financial assistance. The year was spent plan- ning and executing layouts, taking and sorting pic- tures, writing, proofreading, and typing copy, choosing and carrying out a theme, and obtaining sponsors. The result of all this enjoyable labor is TOR 1961. 1 QQQX Sgr-if-fz, Elm QQWVX 01902 ' Q,-,jo cfm? The Welcome Dance was our first activity and was a good way to start the year. It was followed by such money-making projects as a car wash, selling of regulation ties, and selling re- freshments at all home football and basketball games. At Thanksgiving time the Girls, Club collected enough food and money to give five needy families a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner. Later, in the holiday season, the Cabinet put on the annual Christmas Assembly. In March the Tolo was held. It was a great success. The year came to a smooth finish with the Mother and Daughter Tea, held in honor of the new in- coming oflicers and cabinet. The year was so pros- perous that a S200 scholarship has been awarded to a very deserving girl. The 'Cabinet of 1961 would like to give a hearty Thank Youl' to Mrs. Starbird, a most inspiring and deserving Advisor. The following September more members may be added, depending on the needs of the force. The duties of the Rangers are many, but their largest assignment is the enforcement of the rules of good conduct. They keep the halls orderly and help keep the crowds under control at the extra-curricular activities. The defense improved, however, which was highlighted in the game against Highline. Highline received the opening kickoff and was stopped cold. This was the pattern throughout most of the game. Mt. Rainier's previously weak defense was hardly recognizable. Highline fought gallantly for the first score early in the first quarter. Mt. Rainier scored in the third quarter as a result of a series of sustained drives. In the last three minutes of the game, Highline scored to pull out a narrow 141-7 victory. We had many close games, the closest being the game with Auburn in which we lost in the last 13 seconds. Mt. Rainier OPPCNENT 0 ..... .... E vergreen . . . . , . 19 18 .... .... Girls, sports turnouts were held on a voluntary basis after school on each Tuesday and Thursday. Sports playdays held at Mt. Several girls from each school made up the non-competitive teams, giving them an oppor- tunity to meet and know players from other districts.
