Class History Four short years ago seventy-nine care-free, but determined, freshmen entered Mount Pleasant High School . With us came our ideas, our goals and our hope, with which we were to build for the future . Our class advisors during our first year in high school were Miss Ruth James, Mr. Charles Harril, and Mr. Harry Jenkins. Our class election results were: President, Joe Mills; Vice- President, Shirley Auten; Treasurer, Sue Foil; and Secretary, Bob Burris. On the last day of the school year the Freshman Class enjoyed a swimming and skating party. Summer vacation offered us leisure and a short intermission during our high school days. In the fall of fifty-four, high school was a familiar and welcome part of our life as we opened our books with renewed interest and pledged ourselves to greater things. Our class sponsors for the year were Mrs. Nancy Huey and Mrs. H. S. Leafe. Class officers were President, Elizabeth Herion; Vice-President, Jane Culp; Treasurer, Paula Foil; and Secretary, Happy James. The high light of our Sophomore Year was an all-day trip to Raleigh, our state capital . In the fall of fifty-five, fifty-five members of the Junior Class focused their thoughts on the duties and responsibil ities of the coming year. Junior Class officers were President, Frances Eudy; Vice-President, Alvin Yorke; Treasurer, Dianne Mull is; and Secretary, Joe Mills. Class sponsors were Mrs. Kate Harbison and Miss Rosa James. The J unior-Senior Banquet, a highly anticipated event in the life of every Junior, was sponsored by Miss Rosa James and planned around the theme The Old South . We financed the banquet with a very successful project, selling magazine subscriptions. Lena Rivers, our Junior Class play, directed by Mrs. Kate Harbison, was presented on April 13th in the high school auditorium. Those taking part in the presentation were Evelyn Keziah, Alvin Yorke, Sue Foil, Paula Foil, Frances Eudy, Glenn Rimer, Elizabeth Herion, Jane Stallings, Merle Sollinger, Lucille Lambert, Harold Moser, Havis McDonald, and Joe Mills. At the close of school we enjoyed a Square Dance at Bear Creek Community Hut. With the closing of summer vacation we again entered the familiar halls of high school- This, our last year, offered opportunity, challenge, and reward. Miss Madge Sowell and Mrs. Kate Harbison were our class sponsors. Class officers for the year were Archie Vanhoy, President; Jane Stallings, Vice-President; Rachel Honeycutt, Secretary; and Joyce Moser, Treasurer. Under the direction of our sponsors the Senior Class presented its annual play, Oh, Promise Me, on November 16th . Membersof the play castwere Alvin Yorke, Harold Moser, Jane Stallings, Sue Foil, Jane Culp, Merle Sollinger, Elizabeth Herion, Shirley Auten, Dianne Mullis, Joe Mills, Paula Foil, and Margaret Rinehardt. In the spring the Junior-Senior Banquet and the class tripwere thoughtof with great anticipation and pride. Each offered its rewards and enjoyment to those soon to be graduating. Graduation, the day of reward, has arrived. And as we receive our diplomas, we silently pledge ourselves to a life of service to ourselves, to our community, and to our country. Class Historian MARY FRANCES EUDY
