SUPT. THOMAS FLAHERTY B. ED., M. ED. To the extent that schools can develop competence in young people, many of them will achieve or be de- nied the realization of cherished ambitions. A maior aim of the Mount Pleasant Township Public Schools is the preparation of our youth for responsible, satisfying citizenship. The contribu- tion of your secondary school studies toward the realization of this goal must be emphasized, for an excellent high school education is vital to progress in our scientific age, and hence, to the well-being of our free, competitive society. As you approach this new era in your life, try earnestly to meet the problems that con- front you. You must realize that good and evil, creativity and destruction, begin in individual persons, and that the reaching power of the ind iv idual must never be underestimated. Of one thing' we can be sure -- the graduates of our school will be expected to play an increasingly im- portant role in shaping the future of our community and our country. PRINCIPAL WM. D. MULLIN B. S., M. S., M.ED., D. ED. Youth today have dreams, aspirations and hopes. ln many individuals, these ambitions are expressed outwardly in a rush of speed and power to achieve success. Many of you would like to be great in some occupation or profession. Are you willing to work long and hard, many hours and make great sacrifices to achieve your ambition? lt takes struggles in life to make strength. lt takes singleness of purpose to reach a definite obiective. Your ability to achieve, to do well what you do, to stay with your obiective to the very end will be determining factors in the economic and spiritual life you will live. ln the play Green Pastures , Noah says to the Lord, l ain't very much,'but l'm all l got. Well, you're all you've got. What are you going to do with what you've got? Will you use yourself to make life richer, better, nobler? This is perfection. This is the good life. The youth who lives it will be able to say with ioy, I have fought the good tight, l have finished my course, I have kept the faith.
