1950 - Mount Pleasant graduated its first class. The Class of 1950 was composed of 31 boys and 33 girls. Mount Pleasant became a full-fledged high school accredited by the Middle Atlantic States Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools. The total enrollment for the district was now 1,472 pupils, 543 in the junior-Senior High School. 'X 1954 - River Road Elementary School and the new gym on the High School were built. 1956 - Carrcroft Elementary School was completed. The enrollment was now 3,250 pupils, 1,950 of them in grades 1 through 6 and 1,300 in grades 7 through 12. Principals of the Elementary schools were Mr. Thomas D. Childrey, Car- rcroft, Mr. joseph Connelly, Edge Moor, Mr. Lawrance M. Furbush, lr., River Road, and Mr. lack G. Rockwell, Silver- side. 1958 - Mount Pleasant Senior High School was occupied for the first time. Kenneth E. Michael became principal. 1960 - Dorothy Stickney who created the rule of Mother on Broadway in Life With Father presented A Lovely Light, The Touching Cameo study of poet Edna St. Vincent Millay. 1962 - Charles Bomboy, who had formerly been a Biology teacher, was named principal to succeed Mr. Michael. Laura Benet, sister of the famous poet Stephen Vincent Benet and a poet and author in her own right, made her first of several appearances at Mr. Pleasant.

Senator Edward Kennedy accepted for the john F. Kennedy Library a copy of the 1964 Green Leaf, edited by Frank jones, son of Mrs. joan jones llanguage departmentj. Delaware Senators john William and Ca- leb Boggs were part of the Mt. Pleasant contingent for the presentation. The Green Leaf that year dedicated two pages to the assassinated president. 1965 - lt was a night to remember when British Actor Author Emlyn Williams brought Charles Dickens to life on our stage A most charming folk singer Kay Britten made one of her several appearances here The then very popular Serendipity Singers gave a really great show. An evening of Edgar Allan Poe by Nelson Olmsted fascinated and often amused lovers of the distinguished poet's works, especially the reading of The Bells . 1966 - jasper Deeter, Founder and director of the World Renowned Hedgerow Theatre and personal friend of playwright Eugene O'Neill, read scenes from A Long Day's journey Into Night. Another Biology teacher, john Michalcewiz succeeded the late Mr. Bomboy as principal of the High School. 1967 - And Still more distinguished visitors to Mt. P. in the person of Nicholas Lindsay, son of Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay. A poet himself, we heard the poems of his immortal father read impeccably. 15
