THROUGH HIS EFFORTS . A NEW SCHOOL JOHN F. HEINEY Superintendent B.S., Gettysburg College M.A., Columbia University Mr. Heiney, the tall, soft-spoken, dist tinguished Superintendent, has been at Mount Pleasant since 1949. During his administration the district's educationa system has grown so much that at long last, the junior and senior high school: are separate units. As Superintendent, Mr. Heiney hire: all of the teachers in the district. He als4 plans the district budget and publishes tht annual report. As a member of the Boarc of Education, he studies the school's cur riculum for the purpose of providing goot educational facilities for everyone in th district. During his very limited spare time, M1 Heiney enjoys gardening and reading. Since he has been at Mount Pleasani Mr. Heiney has certainly been a valuabl asset to the district.

Our Parent-Teachers Association Is Effective Left to right: Mr. Meixner, Mr. MacMurray, Mr. Bebout, Mrs. Van Brunt, and Mr. Christiansen. The Parent-Teachers Association establishes a closer relationship between the home and the school. Through the united effort of parents and teachers, this association may secure for every student the highest advantages in physical, mental, social, and spiritual education. W Among the specific projects outlined for the year were the purchasing of items for the audio-visual room and serving equipment for school social functions. ln addition, the task of underwriting the expenses for keeping the school library open evenings and Saturdays was taken in hand. The plan to aid student committees, to provide clerical assistance to the office and library, and to help generally when- ever and wherever requested was also undertaken. All of these projects formed the agenda for the year. The officers of the Parent-Teachers Association were Mr. Daniel P. MacMurray, President, Mr. Henry N. Meixner, Vice-President, Mr. Roger W. Bebout, Vice-President, Mrs. John Van Brunt, Jr., Secretary, and Mr. Paul H. Christian- sen, Treasurer. Committee leaders were Mr. and Mrs. James. F. Scott, Program, Dr. Carleton C. Conrad, Ways and Means, Mrs. William McDonald, Publicity, Mr. and Mrs. Jack R. Nail, Hospitality, Mrs. George M. MacLeod, Home Room Repre- sentative, Mr. and Mrs. Milton Montague, P.T.A. Service, Mr. and Mrs. Marshall Brown, Membership, Mr. Howard S. Parsons, Safety and Health, and Mr. David S. Darling, Legislative Committee.

MICHAEL principal BS., Eastern Illinois State College VI.A., Washington University ISL Louisl The latest addition to the Mount Pleasant administration force is Mr. Michael, our that's three principal. n addition to working in his office, he can always be seen in the cafeteria, at games, and at most of the student ctivities. Mr. Michael came to Mount Pleasant from Illinois, where he taught mathematics and later became nrincipal. During his six-year teaching career, he coached many high school sports. His teaching job was emporarily interrupted by World War II. He returned to Illinois after the war and came to Delaware from there. 'eaching apparently runs in Mr. Michael's family, his two sisters and his wife have also chosen this profession. 1 his leisure time, Mr. Michael works with his coin collection, plays bridge, or enjoys a round of golf. lr. Michael's refreshing personality, coupled with his ability, makes him an excellent administrator.
