Pedro Perales Row 3-Robel Acosla, Carlos Arenas, Ed Fairley, Jimmy Martinez THE CARDS AGAIN RE TAIL THEIR DIVISION CHAMPIUNSHIP ln 1982 the Cards won the M.H.A.L. and Division Championship, in 1983 Division Champs and now, 1984, another Divisional Championship, com ilin a record of 63 and 9. The summer lea ue has also been successful the last 3 years with a record of 25-0, which included teams T P ll E such as St. Frances, Bellarmine, Independence, Los Gatos, and Cupertino. This years team opened up with a victory over Live Oak team 60 to 56, then handed another tall team, Westmont a loss 4310 35. The major highlight of pre-season a 3rd place victory over Independence in the 16 team Del Mar tournament, marking the third time of three entries we placed 1st, 2nd, and 3rd respectfully. Both Robel Acosta and Roderick Arms received well deserved All-Tourney honors. Our league opener proved to be a highly contested game, ending with a 48 to 38 double overtime victory on a 5 second basket by Robel Acosta against arch rival Piedmont Hills. Terrance Pleasant provided the excitement in our overtime game against Silver Creek, 119-4 recordj, with a flashy move and lay-up with 4 seconds left to clinch a 42 to 40 victory. The Cardinals lost only one league game, while being victorious in twelve. The cagers also continued their divisional winning streak, extending it to a phenomenal 24 to 0. Roderick Arms, Mr, Defense and Mr. Hustle, he did it all this year, 7 times this season Rod kept his man under 3 pts., twice Rod was sick and once he was injured, Rod was inspiration to the entire team, double figures the last six games, Mark was assisted by our strong 8'5 freshman, center, Walter Watts, who was also very instrumental on our season. Sophomores: Chris Check and Pete Smith also with the very talented freshman Ed Fairly did a great iob of the bench. Without a strong second team one cannot be successful, thus we were very fortunate for the workouts given by the second team of the cagers, which enabled us to have a Z0-3 Championship season. Pedro Perales 130 Most valuable player ofthe team Robel llcosta, who had a G.P.lI. ol 3.8, was both a composer and director of the court action throughout the season.
