in Self-sacrifice, Cooperation, and Right Judgement oi Catholic Democracy . . We sam pattiotism Patriotism and School Spirit-these two go hand in hand with the same objective in mind. Patriotism elevates, invigorates, and inspires the individuals of a country to noble works. A true patriot performs his duty faithfully and manfully, lives an honest and uprxht life, and strives to make the best use of opportunities for improve- ments that present themselves on every side. Where an individual respects the rights and freedoms of the other, there a mutual brothership is felt and experienced. School spirit, I believe, has the same foundation of all such motives. There is the spirit of loyalty and falrnessg the spirit of cooperation and helpfullness between the faculty and the student body: of courtesy and unselfishness towards one another: of consideration for the rights of others. With To it We PLEDGE our lives. our FORTUNES and our HONOR Toast to time Qmefzican A11 hail to our glorious ensign! Courage to the heart. and strength to the hand to which at all times it shall be entrusted! May it ever wave in honor and unsullied glory from the country's strong foothold and wave-rocked top-mast. And wherever upon the earth's sur- face the eye of the American may behold it, may he have reason to bless it. There may FREEDOM have a strong foot- hold. HUMANITY a brave Champion and RELIGION an ALTAR. WW, H. Whalen it Siem! proper school spirit every race and na- tionality unites and cooperates. Patriotism again, is like an organism composed of cells. Love of school is cne of these cells. Since the school is a social unit in the country. love of school is just a particle of patriotism. This particle is magnified and put into action. especially among the students of M.N.A.. who lcve and respect their school as citizens love and respect their country and work fer its Victory. The students are trying to be loyal and trustworthy: their efforts in this line classify them as true patriots. Their capacity for sacrifice. respect. and trust in regard to their country is proved largeiy by the executing of these same virtues in their school life. Rosalia Kota, '42
