STEP SING I Hi- weather's not always considerate. The day of the reception to be held in the garden if fair. Hut it wasn’t fair always. Just to prove it didn’t matter those times, we’d have a lovely time in Pearsons. Down the receiving line would go the parents we could at last connect with the girls we'd known for years. Juniors suspended in their new practically- senior state served punch and cookies, and for hours the indefatigable line would meet and welcome the steady stream of seniors and families. It was so near the end and the beginning. We didn’t stop to think about things. It was exciting, and we had to remem- ber everything, the things people said, the way they looked. The Hams were so gracious: time was so short. We had wanted to graduate, hadn't we? 31 Rein fora nnnts!

IVY EXERCISES In thi Spring, we sense it even more, this Spirit we re talking about. Por a minute the seniors feci, these four years have gone too quickly. The others think, why, well miss these people. So for a time those last few days, we belong more than ever before to what is somehow permanent here. There’s the day we hope it doesn’t rain for Step Sing. But then when it does, we love it nearly as much in Chapin, and we can hear the Class Will read even better there. It’s worth, it, too, even if we had to stay up most of the night to write it. People are leaving all the time; ethers are coming back to see it all happen to some one else, and somehow our own packing isn’t getting done at all. But there's too much to do to worry about the mundane. It's graduation time. 30

Tbt Liist Mile. From right to left. WII i. wh wonder, this day in cap and gown, what has meant most to us? Will we remember that this is the last time, that things will forever be different because of this? Some of us will have twice watched part of our class march in on their graduation day. Without thinking them, we will remember many things, the first day of college. Show, the sun coming up over Prospect on Paster morning. We will carry within us much of this Spirit of Tradition that in these times has not shown itself lacking. In the late summer ot 1943, part of the class of 19-i-l graduated. It has shown itself adaptable, this part of college that is made up of things traditional. We have entered here, and because the world asked of us certain things, we have sought to instill this Spirit with the mobility of change. And it has become dearer to us because of this.
