THE XVAR played a big part in our lives. Pa- pers, radios, public aHairs speakers reminded us of it, and we knew that wc were very fortunate to be here, that our responsibility was to be worthy of the four years we were given in which to prepare ourselves for a new life in a new world. The war meant little things+setting our own tables, washing our dishes, cleaning our rooms, but above all it meant one big thing-the hope that we might serve while we waited. The VVar Service Com- mittee, under the able direction of Arax Sim- sarian, was one of the Community Commit- tees of which we were proudest. Started by Jane Seaver as Defense Committee it was re- organized last year by Bobbie Fuller and be- came the VV.S.C. The organization had three programswone of conservation, one of war courses, and one of information. VVe all knew about conservation-saving tin, rubber and sprung bobbie pins, using as little hot water as possible, and not complaining about meat- less Tuesdays. WVe took war courses, toof first aid, recreational leadership, and typing. And the information program, a plan for collecting and organizing information con- cerning all campus activities related to the war, was another of the invaluable contribu- tions of the VV.S.C. loving SPRING and happy faces accompanied one another, for there were new outlooks to appeal to our winter-weary minds. Freshman Ring Ceremony was always a unique occasion looked forward to with great expectations. Boots and Saddles kept us outdoors, either winding through the trails around Upper Lake or eating a hearty breakfast at the end of a morning Canter. And Dramatic Club offered us relaxation or work, but in either case, fun. The winged grifin glorious L 'wp' . ,f- Tralzsportation-1945 Baumbusch, Ainsworth, Sharp, Hayes, President
