24 THE LLAMARADA This tells of the successful and original enterprises of the Nineteen- sevens. There is a triumphant, victorious strain throughout, particularly noticeable in the long accounts of the junior prom and Senior minstrel show. As every one knows, the enthusiastic reception and financial suc- cess of the latter has never been rivaled save by the 'faculty entertain- ments, and those being the fruit of more than human intellect can hardly be classed with mere mortal productions. llut the IE strand, like the D strand, is so familiar that we can afford to treat it briefly and go on to the last strand-the l' or lfondering. This is written in a quiet, reflective mood, and we observe a sad note in it. Wie experience that feeling of the beginning of the end which is brought out through it all. lt tells how the Nineteen-sevens are now beginning to realize that soon theirs will be among the voices heard in other days. and that they too are about to join the ever-increasing num- ber of other daughters who honor .Holyoke and the blue. All the trials and tribulations of their life at Mount Holyoke fade away as they think of the pleasures tnever to be duplicatedj which they have found in this new home they have come to love so dearly. Although it is only a little over three years since they gathered for the first time, they have so grown together--sharing joys and sorrows--that the thought of parting never to join as a complete whole again makes their hearts heavy indeed. Yet they know it would not be true Nineteen-seven spirit to spend the time in vain regrets, so they make all the merrier their final festivities. And our last glimpse of them is in a very lovely picture,-a mass of white dresses and smiling yet serious faces,-while in our ears seem to re-echo the words so often sung: Oh, our loyal .hearts are beating fast Wfith the love of Nineteen-seven, Her future hope and glory past Bind the ties that ne'er are riven. We allegiance pledge and, standing. hail Her for whom we all have striven, For the class that wins and never fails ls the Class of Nineteen-seven.

A up. leihaps when you attain the lofty summits of Senior intellectuality you may be able to bring such scholarly terms into your daily conversation and xvritinglj lfVe will take them up in the order given-first the I or Jesting strand. This is characteristically bright and clever and deals with the VVit and Humor of the Nineteen-sevens. lt tells of their jovial, happy spirit and love of fun. It tells also how the Ll..xM.xR.x1m Board suggested Ravel- lings from the Senior Tassel as the title for the class history. This touched the Nineteen-seven sense of humor. The subject was not only suggested but stiggestiwv. Apparently they were not wearing well, if they had already begun to ravel. Possibly the lloard meant to imply-deli- cately of course-that the Nineteen-sevens were fast developing into promising candidates for the much talked of Old Ladies' Home. But had they observed the calm LU. sedate t?J manner in which the whole class donned caps and gowns between 8.34 a.m. and 8.34Mt a.m. each morning, they might question the candidacy for that institution. But we must pass to the D or Dramatic strand. This is particularly long and brilliant. The incidents set forth are both interesting and well known. Who has not heard of the famous performances of Fanchon the Cricket and The Lady of Lyons, and the way they took the college by storm? VVhen in the whole dramatic history of the college has a pathetic love scene brought tears save those of laughter to the eyes of the audience? Ah, many are those who can testify to the genuineness of the lachrymal fluid inspired by Claude Melnotte! llut this strand is so familiar to us all that we need dwell on it no longer, but may take up the third strand-the E or Enterprising.
