THE HERMONITE. 171 as new has nevertheless proved its value by two years of actual service. This is Home Science Hall, which serves a triple purpose by supplying recitation and office rooms in addition to its primary' function of providing suitable accommodations for the increasingly strong household science department O girls who remember the overcrou ded rooms in Stone Hall especially the unattractive science and laboratory rooms can realize the advantage of the large uell lighted lecture rooms in the new building Those too who a marked increase in the work of the house- hold science department. Instead of the cramped quarters on the fifth fioor of Mar- quand Hall, where the inventive faculties had to be called into active service before the stu- dent could imagine the well appointed house which the instructor s lecture semed to imply the present student IS lured on from course to course of housekeeping sewing and mllllnefy by the charm of the complete and attractive suite of rooms devoted to these purposes Less conspicuous but no less useful is the NI-XRGARI-1 OLIHA MUSIC HAL1 recall first impressions in the principals the comfortable and commodious office rooms which are nou in use Incidcntally it may be l'llCIlt1OI1CCl that a few who once entered that lbrary office with shaking knees and quakmg hearts have since been prnlleged to enjoy peaceful hours in the same room now cozily furnished and set apart as the Faculty Rest Room But the chief advantage of the Home Science Building is that it has made possible central heating and lighting plant which has their 'tttcndant discomforts from the various buildings and has striven bravely to meet the periodic returns of sub zero weather and super normal winds with an impartial distri bution of heat Lamp girls too have been forced out of business and the replacing of student lamps by electricity has proved as great a boon to the seeker after good temper and a peaceable Cl1SpOS1tlOl'l as to the searcher after printed knowledge .
