A Fine Varsity Team Wins Seven Straight The 76 Varsity Team with combined strengths of character, team unity, senior leadership and just plain ol' good football players won seven straight games. The team had a good offense consisting of a strong ground attack led by Wayne Cos- sentino, Bruce Kerr and Joe Rog- ers. The superb offensive line consisted of Billy McDermott, Tony Notari, Dave Struss, Dan Chetelate, Dave Sikora, Ken Sikora, Art Decarlo, Mark Meas- ick and Richard Gavlin. The strong defense contributed immensely to the seven wins. Playing defense were Greg Long, Chris Johnson, Dave Adamson, Bruce Schmickley, Hank Hum- phries, Bob Lucido, Bill Melvin, and Dan Chetelate. The last game of the season was against Howard and it was the finest game for the Vikes. The offense was first to break the ice by scoring a touchdown after a no-show first half. The defense gave up only 11 points total and held Howard scoreless for three quarters. Hebron played a hard hitting Howard team resulting in the loss of some key Hebron players such as Wayne Cossen- tino. Wayne had already had 108 yards rushing leaving the game in the third quarter. They also lost Mike Thompson and all-county Joe Rogers. Every team has its superb play- ers. On offense there was Brian Dalton who among other things broke every passing record for Hebron. Also Bruce Kerr and Joe Rogers ran for over 700 yards together. The defensive standout was Greg Long who led the team in tackles and broke the record for interceptions in a season. Outstanding senior players were Brian Dalton, Bruce Kerr, Joe Rogers, Dan Chetelate, Tony Notari, Dave Sikora, Greg Long and Art Decarlo.
