I DIANS TIE FUR 2nd PLACE I OC ACTIO With the Mount Gilead Indians being a leading con- tender for the MOC basketball championship, local sport's fans showed renewed in the game. Under the leadership of their new coach, Dale Creamer, the Indians rolled to a 10-9 season record, and posted a 5-2 record in MOC action. Highlights of the season were victories over Wynford, Buck- eye Valley, Pleasant, and teams in the Cardington Holiday Tournament. The showdown game in the MOC race pitted Mount Gilead against cross-county rival Highland for the league co-championship. Unfortunately, the Indians lost the game by a disappointing four points. The defeat put Mount Gilead in a 2nd place tie with Buckeye Valley in the MOC. Special recognition went to several players on the team. I DIAN'S GOLF TEAM REPEATS AS MOC CHAMPIONS Although Mount Gilead entered the season as the favorite to repeat as con- ference champion, few schools were content to just hand the Indians the title. Big Walnut, Marion Catholic, and North Union all had very respect- able squads, and the Wildcats nailed a loss on the Indians in their Brst match of the season. It wasn't a very pleasant experience at the time, but as it turned out, it probably was a blessing in dis- guise. Now the Indians had to be at their mental and physical best for each match or relinquish the coveted crown. The team closed the season with nine consecutive conference victories, a MOC tournament win, and were crowned league champs for the second consecutive year. Other highlights of the season were non-league wins over Mansfield Senior, Ontario, Delaware Hayes, and Columbus Watterson. The Indians finished in 2nd place in the sectional tournament, Sth place in the district tournament, and with an 18-3 season. The team also set a new school record score of 148.
