' (This yearbook features free writings from English classes; they are identi- fied by dates preceding the writings — i.e., Sep. 29. Since each free writing is a fragment or slice of our lives here at Mount Everett-the feature appearing on pages 4 through 1 1 is entitled School Slices. ) Sep. 8 — Today our very first passes of the year were handed out, on the very first Monday of the year. It was so depressing to see a little dot by the 1 on the pass and then to look down at all the numbers descending to 38. To think about the long year ahead is too discouraging. For now it ' s just one week at a time. — S.T. Oct. 15 — Have you ever noticed when you are walking down the hall — and you are the only one in the hall except for one other person — you become nervous because you do not know whether or not to say hello? I always stare at my books or at my feet. I guess I am afraid the other person will not say hello back. — M.E. TOP: Kelly Granger and the universal pass BELOW: John Makuc and Hannah Pedersen pose for the no-hello concept.

(SCHOOL SLICES 2 CONTINUED) - ' ■ ; 5? Nov. 5 — It was the old sct-thc-lockcr routine. I had just walked down the hall without a care in the world. I opened my locker and CRASH! my English notebook fell to the floor! The notebook, being in a sloppy state as it was, was even worse. The whole back cover was now torn off and the front following right behind. Things always seem to happen at just the wrong time. — T.LJ. RIGHT: Michele LaPoint demonstrates the effect of opening a rigged locker. H
