by Kathy Jo Wartella Nov. 21 — How can you do a free writing about sophomores. They ' re just so ... so ... un- seniorish. It must be terrible to be a sophomore — you ' re so stuck in the middle, but ... I was one once . . . wasn ' t I? Nov. 21 — I know a sophom ore who is not a genius, but he has a good mind when he puts it to use. Last year he did really bad in school. He flunked English so he has to make it up. During the summer, he told me he was really going to do well this year. He was going to try a lot harder. First quarter marks came out; he flunked every single class! Boy, was I disappointed in him. I told him so. He got extremely mad at me and told me to mind my own business. We are close friends, and we always try to help each other. The next day I found him in the library doing homework and studying. I hope he keeps it up. — C.A. Nov. 21 — I was walking down the hall feeling very crummy. As I passed one of them, she said, Hi. Next to her was another who also said, Hi, how ya doin ' ? I walked to my locker feeling slightly better when the clincher came. An arm was wrapped around my neck. Caught in a strangling hold I had to retaliate. I swung around and moved in for a bear hug. But the only thing I saw was the back of a sophomore running down the hall. — S.B.
