dedication V Modern ideas which have been put to practical use in Diablo school life today—on the campus and in activities—are there, greatly through the efforts of Mr. Hart Fair- dough. foreword This is Mt. Diablo High—born 1901. Through a half century of progress and adjust- ment, its many buildings (some of which are far from the most modern) center campus life to meet modern standards. This year Mt. Diablo students extended a hand of approval toward the new judiciary system complete with Chief Justice, prosecuting committee, and judiciary committee, and thus student government took a significant stride. The Student Body Constitution underwent a “facelifting job in order that there might be more class participation in activities. To enliven interest in basketball season, musical entertainment was premiered by the “Strawhatters'' in the Gymnasium. Mt. Diablo was a pioneer of the Western high schools in its attempt to record the school’s year on a Telebook. Even the seniors were no longer content to hold to the theme of their annual Senior Variety Show. They presented an Extravaganza, “Carnival Capers. Our rich heritage fom past Diablo years has been enriched this year, 54-55, and changed by the life process of adding new traditions to the old traditions. Or. Fard Olal it now computing hit fourth yaar at our principal. principals message The twentieth century has shown progress in numer- ous areas, including among others, increased produc- tion. improved products, medical advances, better and quicker methods of transportation and communi- cation. as well as in a keener understanding of man's conduct among men. It is important to understand that these accom- plishments have become possible only because of the knowledge and experience accumulated in preceding centuries. As an outgrowth of the progress made, people are better acquainted with traditions and conditions in the rest of the world. To benefit from each other's experiences it becomes necessary for people to de- velop tolerance and understanding. It seems then that there is actually more need now than ever before for people to develop a proficiency in the basic tools of learning (reading, writing, and arithmetic) and in the art of being able to work and get along with others. Only by doing this can youth of today understand the past and also become an active member of the modern world of tomorrow. DR.
