James W. Dent. superintendent of the Ml. Diablo Unified School District, tilt at this desk far info tha nlghlt planning for tha futura schools of tha district. superintendent s message The school year 1954-55 has seen continued growth in the Mt. Diablo Unified School District and a large increase in the number of high school students. To meet this qrowth new schools are needed. Next fall 400 Diablans will be transferred to the new high school in the northern part of our district. As the years roll on. new high schools will be constructed in the Clayton Valley and Ygnacio Valley areas. Mt. Diablo High School will continue to be a large school as the new campuses are being developed. It is expected that the present Diablo enrollment of 2,200 students will increase to 2,800 or more within the next ten years. By that time there will be five high schools in our district, and many new adjustments will have had to be made. It is hoped that Mt. Diablo High will continue to maintain the traditionally high standards of sports- amnship, scholarship, and citizenship which have pre- vailed through the years. Mt. Diablo must be the big brother of our new schools and continue to set the example for the rest of the district. Or. Fard Olal it now computing hit fourth yaar at our principal. principals message The twentieth century has shown progress in numer- ous areas, including among others, increased produc- tion. improved products, medical advances, better and quicker methods of transportation and communi- cation. as well as in a keener understanding of man's conduct among men. It is important to understand that these accom- plishments have become possible only because of the knowledge and experience accumulated in preceding centuries. As an outgrowth of the progress made, people are better acquainted with traditions and conditions in the rest of the world. To benefit from each other's experiences it becomes necessary for people to de- velop tolerance and understanding. It seems then that there is actually more need now than ever before for people to develop a proficiency in the basic tools of learning (reading, writing, and arithmetic) and in the art of being able to work and get along with others. Only by doing this can youth of today understand the past and also become an active member of the modern world of tomorrow. DR.
