SUPERINTENDENT'S MESSAGE As our school district grows, many changes take place. Since the original building was constructed in 1905, Mt. Diablo High School has been the' high school of the area. This year marked the establishment of a second high school, and with continued growth it is probable that we shall have three, four, or even five high schools in the next ten years. To many Diablans, Mt. Diablo High School will always be the” high school. This year's graduating class will be the last all-district senior class. It bequeaths to successive classes many traditions of long standing which will carry on the unique spirit of Diablo High. School will be finished and friends will part to go on to various fields of work and education. As time goes by, your high school experience will mean more to you. Your 1954 Diablo annual will be treasured because it will be filled with memories. Through- out its pages you will find the faces of classmates whose friend- ship you will treasure long after graduation has passed. Acting under orders from Viceroy Bucareli requiring him to explore by land and sea the port of San Fran- cisco, acting Governor Don Pedro Fages set out on an expedition of exploration in the spring of 1772. He was accompanied by Father Juan Crespi, who was sent by Father Junipero Serra to act as diarist. On this expedition Contra Costa County was discovered.
