Chronology queen, Ann Van Bever, her court, and the dance sponsored by the senior class made the evening a great success. NOVEMBER . . . November came roaring in on a happy note as we beat East Detroit at their homecoming game, Zl to 6. Monday was quiet, but there was a mad scurry on Tuesday as we prepared our Helens for a locker inspection. Wednesday was Parents' Night, and the ax fell as our parents came to school to meet the teachers. The final game of the football season was played in bitter cold, but the fans were warmed as the Bathers came across with a 20 to 7 win over Berkley. . . . Tuesday the l2th was busy with the Y -Teens informal initiation, and the E.lVl.l... conference at Hazel Park. The rest of the school week was very quiet. Saturday, November I6, the senior class presented the comedy, Goodbye, My Fancy which was received with en- thusiasm .... Tuesday, the l9th, we Fire had a safety assembly to observe Prevention week, and on Friday, the sophomores got into the act with a dress- up dance. The following Monday the Masque and Wig went to Detroit to see the comedy hit, Auntie lVlame. . . . Tuesday we all attended a Thanksgiving assembly put on by our vocal and instru- mental music departments. That evening the Y-Teens held their formal initiation in the First Presbyterian church and at the close of the day Wednesday we all went home to turkey and 'rest over Thanksgiving. DECEMBER . . . December 2nd found us back in school suffering from Uturkeyitisn and already eagerly looking forward to Christmas .... That first day back, we were entertained during the noon hour by lVlr. Gerald Gerard, who gave a concert on our new electric organ. The rest of the week passed quietly, and we spent the weekend demolishing the rest of the turkey .... On December I0th, the Bather five, hampered by lack of height and experience, dropped the first away game to Grosse Pointe. Friday the lVl.C. swimming team opened its season at Royal Oak Kimball .... The next week- end was a BIG one as the Y-Teens put on the Snowball one of their two annual formal dances. The Civic Center, where the dance was held, was decorated in the theme of a silver slipper, and the large crowd stayed late fand had a Mary Lou Hayden, Carol Kowlaczyk, Colleen Gillespie Sandra Gobat, Dale NVebb, Judy Bennett, Becky Howard and Julie Brush enact a scene from the senior play Goodbye My Fancy Brent Anthony and Barbara Kolznak were only two of the many gay couples who enjoyed the Snowball Ioan Syrja-helped at enrollment. time, this was one among the many services she performed to win the D A R Go d Citizenship award, 79

After a long, hot summer, enroll- ment time came around again. For three days, the 4, 5 and 6, it was the usual round of scared freshmen and impatient upper-classmen. Some of us thought it would never end, but with the help of the teachers Cincluding several new ones, and the student aides, we managed to survive .... The energetic junior class got the year off to a lucky start by sponsoring a dance on Friday the l3th. By the end of the second week of school, things were back in the old routine, and Saturday, the Zlst found the Battling Bathers traveling to Grosse Pointe for the first football game of the year. Un- fortunately the wrong team won that game .... As we looked around school during the next week, we could see the beginning of the mass invasion of Asiatic Hu which would soon hit us .... The week of the 26th was a busy one with the sale of football season tickets, year- book reservations, a Student Council meeting, the distribution of freshman class officer petitions and a pep assembly. Friday, the 27, probably the greatest day of the year, saw our boys break a two-year long losing streak by trouncing Van Dyke, 24-0. The jinx was broken, and joy reigned. OCTOBER . . .The first week of Cctober was largely devoted to freshmen. Petitions for class officers were turned in: primary elections were held on Thursday and on Friday the Bathers took on Birmingham. fGloom!l . . . On Tuesday, the 18th, the Service Club was back on the job distributing All-States pictures. f Do l really look like that? l Freshman class officer elections were held on Thursday, and on Friday, the Port Huron game. CDon't worry, we'll get that little Brown jug back yet.J The Mirror Staff gave a very funny skit to get their sales cam- paign off to a Hying start on Tuesday. That night, the freshmen sponsored a skating party .... The first vacation of the year was on Thursday and Friday when our teachers went to Detroit for Teachers' lnstitute .... If the hrst week of the month was dominated by freshmen activities, the third week was taken over by the seniors. Tuesday, seniors took the national Scholarship Qualifying Tests, and Thursday was College Night for seniors and their parents. Friday was homecom- ing, and although the Bathers dropped the game to Hazel Park, the Homecoming

The music department again became busy on Thursday, the l9th, as all of the glee clubs, choirs and instrumental groups presented the Christ- mas Concert for the students, and, in the evening, for the general public. The art department had made a series of huge Christmas cards which illustrated the music .... Friday we all went hither and yon for a long, long vacation. JANUARY . . . January 6th found us back in school with Christmas behind and exams fshudderll ahead. Along with exams, january was devoted largely to basket- ball and swimming .... Birmingham High School was fully represented on Friday the 10th as they journeyed here to meet both the swimmers and the basketball squad. The basketball game was followed by a hop sponsored by the class of '59 .... The next week was given over to swimming and basket- ball too: Monday-swimming, Edsel Ford, Tuesday-basketball, Port Huron, and Fri- day-swimming and basketball at Hazel Park . . . Saturday brought a welcome relief from sports as the music department presented the annual Winter Concert. fThe Band and Orchestra deserve a :hm ...f-' Mixt-rl emotions show 'ill the fzwts of Kathy Kohn, Sally lfaton, Sharon Brownson, Carol Hinmon, Bob Eaton.
