Junior key sixth man, Ed Kramer 1525 drives in for a lay up, as a result of a well executed fast break. Sophomore center Dana Hungerford 1503 moves in fast. Basketball student manager Bill McClane had many varied responsibilities for the season: basically all duties involved the care and maintenance of all bas- ketball gear. Varsity H oopsters Lose Fjteen And Win Eight The Mt. Carmel High School basketball record, under Coach George Toler, was a losing season of eight victories and fifteen defeats. The Aces had good momentum going for them early in the season until a close loss to Carrier Mills in the Eldorado Tournamentg after this loss the sched- ule seemingly got difficult. However, the Aces turned in three sterling performances in stunning upsets of Carmi and Fairfield and a strong game while losing to Olney in the Regional Tournament. Dana Hungerford was selected for the Second Team All-Conference NEC, while his teammates Steve Newkirk and Steve Childers were voted Honorable Mention NEC All-Conference selections. 9 Junior Aces' forward, Steve Childers shows the correct form and touch for successful free throw shooting, as he sinks another one against the Olney Tigers. 9

Varsity cheerleaders, Kathy Dagley, Ann Fuller, Debbie Talley, Mary Lou Swanson and Kathi Thomson led the Aces in victory and defeat. During the last Pep assembly of the year, the varsity cheerleaders let the starting five varsity players try their hand at playing the cheerleaders. Shortstuff Newkirk tips the ball and Thomson jumps for the possession of the ball. The final score was 20-10 in favor of the cheerleaders. Junior varsity cheerleaders, Debbie Reeves, Jo Dillard, Beth Dagley, Vesta Peter and Tonia Brown cheered many long games. Cheerleaders Recognized At Last Home Game This year at the last home basketball game the cheer- leaders were recognized and received flowers and a kiss from the players. The cheerleaders then awarded the coaches and varsity boys with an autographed basketball. During the year the cheerleader's advisor, Mrs. Epler presented the girls with flowers at their first pep assembly of the year and at the banquets. This being Mrs. Epler's first year proved to be a successful one. School spirit was high and more students attended the out-of-town games. She spent many hours helping the girls finish their work for banquets, games, and little things done for the play- ers. To add a little variety to the last pep assembly the varsity cheerleaders played the varsity players in a game of basketball. Of course with a little help from Coach Davis the girls won. This year the junior varsity cheer- leaders were very busy attending all the freshman and sophomore games. And as Mrs. Epler put it, 'fAnd them's a lot of ball games!', Also this year they had substitute cheerleaders to fill in when one of the girls couldn,t make it. Maria Dunkel served as alternate for varsity and Jan Bridges was the junior varsity alternate. .W.-'mtv' skill'- r V-ww,aea1tmi41fia.+w:.-.ewavjff-wwamvlffsfvieef'fe ' n- -
