Frosh Footballers Lose Onhf One Game The Freshman football squad for 1971 revealed a lot of promise for the future gridiron history to be written at Mr. Carmel. The little Aces compiled five victories while losing only to Princeton. This young team exhibited strong defense and a multiple of- fense, featuring passing, running, and adept ball handling. The Aces were coached by George Toler and Larry Conrady. Freshman Aces set tauntly for a major defensive effort against a quick Bridgeport. The young Aces and Bulldogs clashed in an explosive vic- tory for MCHS. The powerful offensive unit of the Mt. Carmel Frosh-Soph team poise ready for the snap from center against Carmi, who lost to the Aces, 8 to 6. Frosh-Sophs End With Six Ana' One Season The mighty Frosh-Soph Mt. Carmel High football team, coached by Mr. Gene Sams and assisted by Mr. Ron Weisgerber, rolled to an outstanding season of six victories and only one defeat, a two-touchdown loss to the Lawrenceville Indians. The successful season coupled a stubborn defense with a hard-running offense that could pass extremely well. All of this record promises good gridiron days ahead for the Mt. Head Coach Larry Davis and Assistant Coach John Gates extend congratula- tions to Mt. Carmel varsity player, Greg Smith, as he receives his well de- served letter. Freshman football coach, Larry Conrady, shakes hands with Mark Bader, who receives his well earned freshman football award. The Freshman team made a fine record. Cross Country Coach Jim McDaniels awards his top runner for the season, Jeff Seaton, his letter. Seaton, who is only a junior, shows great future promise. Football-Cross Country Feed And Fete Players The annual Mt. Carmel High School Football-Cross Country Award Banquet featured guest speaker Mr. Jerry Hart, the Head Varsity Football Coach of Illinois State University. The MCHS Boys Quartet provided musical entertainment. Varsity Football Coach Davis started the presentations with Coach Weisgerber awarding deserving Sophomores letters. Then Coaches Toler and Conrady awarded all qualified Freshman footballers. Coach Jim McDaniel gave his harriers their deserved letters. Miss Lois Epler, the cheerleaders, sponsor, awarded the cheer- leaders awards. The awards were climaxed by the NEC All-Conference awards that went to Steve Winkler, Greg Xanders, Rick Snow, Robert Storckman, Mike Van Gilder, and Steve Riggs. Robert Storckman was awarded All Southern Illinois recognition.
