Supplementing the academic curriculum with physical ed- ucation since '23, Mr. Mur- phy is as much part of Car- mel as the aged halls them- selves. Dean of Physics, Mr. O'Con- nor has instructed Seniors in the hard formulas of Physics since Carmel's portals Iirst opened. Much ol' the Physics apparatus was built by him. Responsible for the very able and very superior coaching of Carmcl's excellent Heavy- and Lightweight Basketball teams, lXIr. Wliilt: keeping up a seheclule which includes teaching such subjects as World History to Sophs, and llnglish to Frosh and Sophs, he never loses his usual friendly disposition. His hard work with students has produced many line scholars.

REV. Fioiaus NOLAN O. CARM. A new faculty member this year, Father graduated from Calumet H. S. before taking up studies for the priesthood. Among his teaching duties are Freshman Religion, General Science 8: Senior History. He also directs the cheerleaders. BRO. Louis Horr O. CARM. Keeper of the ledgers of the School, Brother Louis is the Assistant in the Treasurer's office. Bro. is also in charge of the schoolis addressograph by which Carmel's students and their parents can receive prompt notices from school. REV. CASIMIR ZIELINSKI O. CARM. Father's first year at Mount Carmel found him teaching Religion, Spanish and Latin to the Sophs as well as Relig- ion to the Frosh. Along with these duties, he was modera- tor of this yearfs Art Club, which was very successful. BRO. STEPHEN MCGOVERN O. CARM. It is a rare student who has not spent at least one after- noon in Brother's cozy cita- del-jug-and faced all the charms of this active section of the Faculty. Bro. is ready to assist those who need aid in discipline or anything else. REV. CANISIUS HINDE C. CARM. Besides teaching the Seniors Mechanical Drawing, thejun- iors Algebra, and the Sophs Geometry, he was this year's moderator of the wrestling team 8: the Bowling League. A graduate of '41, he was a World War H fighter pilot. BRO. JOHN ClOGI-ILAN O. CARM. This marks the twenty-fifth year at Carmel for Brother John, the friendly proprietor of the bookroom. Among his jobs is sports manager, from which post he claims to have instructed lN4r. Brennan in all the finer points of football. E l ,. BRO. MEL WALSH O. CARM. Though he,s rarely glimpsed about school, students would readily miss him if he left us without notice. This fav- orite offspring of the Emer- ald Isle is in charge of our school engineering problems. He is convivial and humorous. BRO. HERMAN CoNLoN O. ClARM. Although he does no teaching, Brotherls day is a busy one. At lunchtime he helps in the Student Center, while after school he can be seen in thc Treasurer's Office. MR. WILLIAM FLEMING B.S. Known for his controllable temper, likeable personality, and effectiveness in teaching, Mr. Fleming, besides training Seniors in American History, also instructs the Sophomores in English. He is a respected unit of the Carmel Faculty. MR. RICHARD COMPTON B.A. This experienced and capable teacher, who is now enjoying his second year as a member of Carmel's faculty, devotes his full schedule to lecturing underclassmen. He drills the Sophs in Plane Geometry and forces Algebra on Freshmen, l MR. WILLIAM JACOBY B.A. One of the versatile profes- sors on Mt. Carmel's staff, Mr. Jacoby coaches both the lightweight football team and the Fly and Bantam cagers. Besides this he teaches Eng- lish to Juniors and Sophs and is assistant to Mike Murphy. MR. JERRY CROIXRKIN B.A. One of Carmel's newest lay professors, Mr. Croarkin is a graduate of Quigley P. S. and De Paul University. His time is spent between instructing Freshmen in the elements of English and attending Loyola to earn his master's degree. MR. JAMES FATTORE M.B,A. Responsible for the teaching of Accounting to Juniors and Seniors along with History to the Juniors, Mr. Fattore also ably uses his talents in coaching Carmelas excellent wrestling team. This year he started intramural grappling. l MR. MATTHEXN' SMITH B.A. Although he has taught at Mt. Carmel for only three years, Mr. Smith has won the re- spect and admiration of both the Faculty and the students. He spends his time teaching the important topics of Gen- eral Science and Algebra I. lull MR. JAMES MCGUIRE B.A. Recently returning from the Marine Corps, this new asset to the Faculty adapted him- self to civilian and Carmel life quite readily. His time is occupied teaching History to Seniors and Sophs plus Civics 8L Economics to the Juniors. MR.
