Je 4, WTWWB For the past two years the talents of Mister Brennan have been recognized by the entire cityfin football. However, though his coaching potential was realized before he was hired. Terry was not chosen for football alone. His intellectual curiosity, his pleasing personality, his religious fervor-all had a bearing on the deci- sion. For these qualities was he selected, for these is he admired, for these will he always be a success. Terrv first acquired football fame at Marquette High School in Milwaukee where he was an all citv half- back Then he moxed on to Notre Dame, w here he became a star of the greatest magnitude His greatest single achiexement under coach Frank Leahx was a spectacular 100 xard runback of an Armx kickoff for a touchdown That was in 1948 the same xear he w as named All American After graduation he turned down pro ball to coach Mount Carmel and get a graduate degree in law at De Paul It w as here at Carmel that he received acclalm as the greatest of prep football coaches Cm newspapers were filled with accounts of his three consecutlve CIIX champlonshlps, his two undefeated seasons, and his unbroken string of eighteen wins m a row In his four years of coaching Terrx s teams lost only two League games while winning twentx, both losses came ln his first tear of coaching Further testimonx to the success of his tutoring may be found ln the college performance of his former plaxers such as Dan Shannon Paul LCOHI Tom Carey, and Paul Matz It is not for his football achievements alone, howexer, that we dedicate this book to him It is for his am lDlIlOH which enabled him to work full time as a teacher and football coach while attending graduate courses in law it is for his perseverance, which enabled hllU to field a championship team in 1951 with no regular from the 30 champs returning 1Tl0St of all, it IS for his courage which enabled him to remain faithful to his Catholic faith while mam m this pagan world have fallen Despite his success, Mister Brennan has made no enemies fWho says, nice guys finish last? Even if he never won a game, Terry s wears at Carmel could never be forgotten, but as it IS he will be immortal IVhx9 Because he won ball games Yes, but more than that' He has a pleasing, friendly personality He makes friends easilx He IS so unabashed by fame that he will return the greeting of am one he meets, or go out of his was to be of asslstance to his slightest acquaintance In his ex ery endeavor he does his best, and thereupon excels He is one of those rare celebrities who satisfies his own ambition only through the utilization of his own abilities in climbing the ladder to success he has nexer had to step on anothers toes In short, he IS the perfect example for all Carmel students a professional success ffootball coachl, an intellectual success Cgraduate degreej, an athletic success CAll Americanj, a social success flJC3L1Ilfl1l wife and mam friendsj, and a spiritual success ffrequent communicant, son of Maryl Confident that he will alw axs remain loyal to Our Ladx his patron both at Carmel and Notre Dame and confident that he will alwaxs be a credit to both schools, we wish htm continued success in everx endeavor Ass Nwxtnxysmx A Q 1 W 5 r k ,LIU .fi X Xxx -H WX Z, TT c., f A ' V . .
