DEDICATION Dedicated to the teaching of classical languages at Mount Carmel for ten years, Fr. Bernardine Kangley, O.Carm., has given of his priestly zeal to hundreds of students. Many have been started on the road to educational achievement and spiritual holiness by this self-sacrificing Carmelite. He was born March 8, 1919, in Wilmington, Illinois. He was ordained on August 16, 1944, in Chicago, Illinois. For the next seven years he taught at Joliet Catholic High, Mount Carmel, Chi- cago, the Carmelite junior seminary, and worked as a parish priest in New Jersey. Since coming to Mount Carmel in 1954, he has exerted an influence on his students which is beyond the knowledge of man. Therefore, as a token of our esteem and affection, we, the 1963 El Con- quistador staff, humbly dedicate this annual to Fr. Bernardine Kangley. 2

When all the members of a symphony orchestra unite their efforts, they produce beautiful inspiring music. When all the stu- dents of a high school unite their efforts and participate fully in the planned pro- gram of their school, they too produce a theme that is gratifying to all. This year the keynote at Mt. Carmel has been PARTICIPATION and in true Cru- sader spirit the Men of Carmel have joined forces and made participation part of their lives. To participate means to share with others, and whether it was in the class- room or on the field or in the grandstand, the Student Body proved that Mt. Carmel High is truly second to none.
